Damascus, Dec. 15 (SANA) Syria and Iraq held talks on Monday to explore ways to improve border crossing operations and further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place at the General Authority for Ports and Customs in Damascus, with Qutaiba Badawi, head of the Syrian authority, and an Iraqi delegation led by Lieutenant General Sami Abdul Hussein Radhi, advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister.
The discussions focused on the activation of al-Tanf – al-Waleed border crossing and plans to establish a new crossing in al-Bukamal area, which would serve as an alternative to the current crossing.
Both sides emphasized the importance of improving coordination on border management to facilitate trade and passenger movement. They also agreed that enhancing cooperation in customs and border security is key to fostering stronger economic ties.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating smooth cross-border exchanges and ensuring security along the shared border.
