Prague, Dec. 12 (SANA) The Czech government has approved the medical use of psilocybin, the psychoactive compound found in so-called “magic mushrooms,” beginning in 2026.
According to Agence France-Presse, the new regulations allow psychiatrists and psychotherapists to administer psilocybin when “treatment with registered medical substances is ineffective or if intolerance is proven.”
Under the rules, psilocybin may be used only for cancer-related depression, severe clinical depression without psychotic symptoms, and cases of deteriorating mental health that pose a risk to the patient’s life.
Health Minister Vlastimil Valek welcomed the decision, calling it a step forward for “the Czech health system, the expert public, and patients.”
