Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction: Opta Supercomputer Expects Reds to Extend Unbeaten Run

We look ahead to Saturday’s Premier League game at Anfield with our Liverpool vs Brighton and Hove Albion prediction and preview.

Liverpool vs Brighton: The Key Stats

The Opta supercomputer has predicted Liverpool to get back to winning ways at Anfield, with the Reds emerging victorious against Brighton in 52.8% of the data-led simulations. Liverpool have lost just one of their eight Premier League home games against Brighton (W5 D2), though it was the only other time they’ve faced them as the competition’s reigning champions. Brighton beat Liverpool 3-2 in their last meeting in May and are looking to record back-to-back league victories against them for the very first time.

A run of four games without defeat in all competitions would suggest that the tide is beginning to turn at Liverpool, but their off-field drama has suggested anything but a happy camp.

Arne Slot’s team boosted their hopes of a top-eight finish in the UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 win over Inter on Tuesday, thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s 88th-minute penalty.

However, the Reds’ European triumph was overshadowed by the situation surrounding Mohamed Salah, who was left at home following his explosive outburst at the weekend.

Salah suggested that Liverpool had “thrown him under the bus” after a late collapse in their draw with Leeds United, having been left to watch the drama unfold from the bench.

Indeed, Salah has been an unused substitute in two of Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches. He had only been an unused sub in three of the first 303 matchday squads he featured in for the Reds before that.

This season marks Salah’s lowest tallies per 90 minutes for Liverpool for shots (2.6), shots on target (0.8) and touches in the opposition box (7.3), so many believe that Slot’s decision is justified, given his team have gone unbeaten since dropping the Egyptian from the starting XI.

Since making the move to Liverpool in June 2017, only Jordan Pickford (308) has played more Premier League games than Salah (301), while the 33-year-old also tops the charts for goals (188) in the top flight during that timeframe, 53 ahead of second-placed Harry Kane.

Slot remained tight-lipped on whether Salah would be involved for this Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion, with the forward due to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations early next week.

With Cody Gakpo a doubt through injury and Federico Chiesa struck down with an illness, Slot could turn towards Salah to try and bolster Liverpool’s forward options. He has 10 goals in 16 Premier League outings against Brighton, only managing more against West Ham United, Southampton (both 11), Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth (both 12) and Manchester United (13).

But away from Salah’s situation, Slot will also be looking to build momentum after their win against West Ham was followed up with back-to-back draws with Sunderland and Leeds.

Liverpool have just 23 points (W7 D2 L6) and have conceded 24 goals in the Premier League this season, the worst start by a reigning champion in both metrics after 15 games since Leicester City in 2016-17 (16 points, 26 conceded).

And that defence has been a concern not only this season, but throughout the calendar year. Liverpool have conceded 48 goals in 35 Premier League games in 2025 – only twice before have they shipped 50+ goals in a year in the competition, doing so in 2012 (51) and 2014 (52).

And Brighton will be keen to exploit that. Only Manchester United (26), Arsenal (28) and Manchester City (35) have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Fabian Hürzeler’s team (25, level with Chelsea), who are out to continue their impressive recent run on the road.

Brighton have kept a clean sheet in each of their last two away Premier League matches – a victory over Nottingham Forest and a stalemate with rivals Crystal Palace – though the Seagulls have failed to keep three in a row since doing so between March and July 2020.

However, a run of four top-flight games without defeat came to an end in a seven-goal thriller against Aston Villa on 3 December. That was followed up with a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham, as Brighton needed a stoppage-time leveller from Georginio Rutter to seal a share of the spoils.

Indeed, Brighton are winless in their last eight Premier League matches in December (D5 L3) – manager Hürzeler has won a match in each of the other nine months he’s taken charge with the Seagulls, but never in December.

And should this weekend’s visitors end their poor run in the final month of the year, you feel that Jan Paul van Hecke will be key, surprisingly at both ends of the pitch.

Van Hecke has registered three goal involvements (two goals, one assist) in his last two Premier League outings, while the Dutchman has also made 217 line-breaking passes in the Premier League this season, more than any other player (Marcos Senesi is second with 159).

    Liverpool vs Brighton Head-to-Head

Liverpool have often had the better of this fixture in the Premier League, especially when welcoming Brighton to Anfield.

Indeed, the Reds have lost just one of their eight Premier League home games against Brighton (W5 D2), though it was the only other time they’ve faced them as the competition’s reigning champions (0-1 in February 2021).

Brighton did, however, beat Liverpool 3-2 in what was the Reds’ penultimate away match of their title-winning campaign in their last meeting, with Jack Hinshelwood scoring an 85th-minute winner for Hürzeler’s side.

The Seagulls have never beaten Liverpool in consecutive league matches before, though, and they will want to put that record to bed this time around.

And both sides might try and refrain from landing the first blow, because the team scoring first has not won any of their last four Premier League meetings (D1 L3), since a 3-0 victory for the Seagulls in January 2023.

    Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction

Following the Opta supercomputer’s 10,000 data-led simulations, it has sided with Liverpool to register their first Premier League home win since 1 November against Aston Villa.

The Reds were handed a 52.8% chance of taking all three points, while Brighton are given a 23.0% win probability as they aim to continue their push towards the top four of the table.

A stalemate, which last happened between the sides in October 2023 at the Amex Stadium, happened in 24.2% of those outcomes.
