Bruce Willis is happy.
The actor, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in early 2023, is doing okay, all things considered. In a candid interview with People magazine, Willis’ daughter Rumer Willis shared an unexpected update on her dad.
“What’s been interesting having a family member with dementia, it’s like, he’s happy. As well as someone could be doing, given the circumstances, he’s doing well,” she told the outlet. “When I get to see him, he sees me and [daughter] Louetta and he starts smiling. So, there’s so much love and joy and tenderness that still exists there. And in terms of that, I would say that’s a huge win.”
“And the fact that we still have him, you know?” the singer/actress added.
In 2025, Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared that the family made the difficult decision to move the Die Hard star into a home nearby where he receives the care that he needs in a “calm and serene atmosphere,” according to People.
“We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs,” Heming Willis told the outlet. “The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing.”
These days, the whole family is just grateful for the time they have with the beloved actor.
“The most important thing for me is that I’m so grateful that I have this time with him for however many years it may be,” Rumer told People. “I’m grateful that he seems generally wonderful and, given all of the givens of our situation, that our family is just so loving and together.”
Bruce may struggle with memory and language, but he’s still able to do a lot of things, too. Earlier this month, he attended his daughter Tallulah Willis’ wedding, for example.
There’s no shortage of love in the Willis family, that’s for sure.
