New Unwell Energy Drink Brand Heads to Target

Target will soon be stocking a "bold" new energy drink, and this one comes from Alex Cooper's Unwell Beverages.

On Wednesday, Unwell Energy was revealed as the latest installment in the wellness-focused brand's product lineup, following its Hydration series.

Continuing the lifestyle brand’s commitment to creating "better-for-you" versions of consumers’ favorite drinks (and Crocs, thanks to that one collab), the new energy drink line is free from artificial sweeteners and packed with both electrolytes and vitamins for extra support.

The new energy-boosting option for health-conscious consumers is made with real fruit juice, stevia and only three grams of sugar. It also has 745 milligrams of electrolytes and six essential B vitamins (such as Biotin) for added support. Its recipe is completely free of artificial sweeteners such as sucralose, aspartame, erythritol, and acesulfame potassium, which can cause stomach upset in some.

As for the caffeine content, each can contains 150 milligrams of caffeine from green coffee extract, which is slightly less (50 milligrams) than that found in other popular vitamin-infused canned energy beverages like Celsius Vibe and C4 Performance Energy, which both clock in at 200 milligrams and half the caffeine found in extra-strength series like Monster's Killer Brew.

For what it's worth, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently recommends a daily limit of 400 milligrams of caffeine for adults, so this slightly less potent option might be a better match for consumers who don't want to give up that extra cup of coffee, soda with lunch, or sweet, chocolatey treat but want to avoid too much caffeine intake. It's "energy without compromise," the brand says.

The new canned energy drink line will debut in four "juicy" flavors, all crafted to deliver a "refreshing taste with bold benefits." They are: Cherry Lime, Passion Fruit Orange Guava, Watermelon, and Pineapple Coconut.

“Wellness culture constantly tells us to be perfect, but Unwell Beverages was created to meet women exactly where they are,” Alex Cooper, co-founder of Unwell, shared in a Dec. 10 press release. “Whether they’re thirsty, hungry, or exhausted, Unwell Beverages allows us to support our community with great tasting, better-for-you versions of their favorite drinks.”

Unwell Energy is expected to be available at Target stores nationwide now and on Target.com beginning Sunday, Dec. 28, for a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $2.69 per bottle (prices may vary).
