Pasadena City Council Monday, Dec. 8, unanimously approved the creation of a Housing, Homelessness and Planning Committee.
An ad hoc committee comprised of Mayor Victor Gordo along with councilmembers Rick Cole, Tyron Hampton and Jason Lyon recommended the new City Council committee to ease the burden on the existing Economic, Development and Technology Committee where policy around housing and homelessness would be discussed.
Councilmember Steve Madison said it should be made more clear that the committee will be addressing homelessness.
Hampton suggested moving the word homelessness up so that the committee name would be Housing, Homelessness and Planning Committee.
The committee will include up to four councilmembers appointed by Gordo. The committee’s scope of responsibility will cover land use and transportation planning in addition to housing and homelessness issues, according to a city staff report.
