Damascus, Dec.9 (SANA) A 17-year-old boy died and more than 260 people required medical assistance during celebrations in Damascus marking the first anniversary of the Liberation Day, Health Ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry reported that the teenager died from complications related to smoke inhalation and overcrowding. He also suffered from a chronic heart condition, according to the statement. Medical teams treated 247 people on site, while 18 others were transported to hospitals—12 to al-Mouwasat Hospital and six to Damascus Hospital.
The Ministry said emergency teams had been deployed across major gathering points in the capital from early morning as part of a response plan designed to provide rapid medical support.
Large crowds filled public squares in Damascus and other cities on Monday to celebrate the first anniversary liberation from the former regime.
