The Louvre Museum in France experienced a severe water leak, causing significant damage to around 400 books and documents in its Egyptian antiquities library, several of which are now beyond repair.
The French newspaper Le Figaro reported that the water pressure was so high that it seeped onto the floor, reached an electrical cabinet, and nearly caused a fire.
Another leak had occurred in the same location the previous week.
An alert issued by the Hygiene, Safety and Working Conditions Committee stated that a faulty valve supplying the pipes above the documents caused a significant water leak, severely damaging books and documents and resulting in a noticeable deterioration of the work area.
