What’s at Stake in Week 14, Ben Johnson X Factor Alert, New Roster Moves, and Other Bears Bullets

Happy Game Day, Bears fans! If you’re reading this from Chicago, please go clear your sidewalks of snow. Doing it now means you don’t have to do it later when the game is on.

A good way to start your day is with this Bears-Packers Week 14 hype video:

This nugget from the ESPN research team puts into perspective what is at stake in today’s Bears-Packers game:

“With a win, the Bears would have a 64% chance to win the NFC North, but that would fall to 22% with a loss, according to ESPN Analytics. Meanwhile, the Packers have a 71% chance to win the NFC North with a win, which drops to 27% with a loss.”

The Packers don’t seem too fond of Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson (or the rest of his team), but there is no denying his impact in this squad’s improvement:

Xavier McKinney on Bears: "They're creative. The play calling is a lot more creative than what they've done in the past. Obviously they've got playmakers on their team, and then you add Ben Johnson as their HC calling the plays, it seems to me that the play book is really open."

    — Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) December 1, 2025 Ben Johnson is a real X factor in this game. The Bears haven’t had a difference-maker calling plays since Matt Nagy in 2018. And because Johnson is (1) a more experienced play-caller than Nagy ever was and (2) has had a fair amount of succcess against the Packers from his time with the Detroit Lions, all bets are off when it comes to how this game is called. Frankly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is no better way to keep a defense on its heels than by being unpredictable.

    BEARS-PACKERS WEEK 14 PREVIEW

The Bears will be without wide receiver Rome Odunze. Chicago’s leading pass-catcher is dealing with a foot issue that will keep him out of action. Earlier, we lined up players who are in a position to step up in Rome’s place. For what it’s worth: Odunze’s last 3 games (21 targets, 7 catches, 102 yards, 0 TDs) had me thinking that something wasn’t quite right with the wideout. Perhaps some rest and an exteneded bit of time off will help the foot injury that is ailing him. More on that later in a seperate post today. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images This quote (via Bears Wire) from retired Pro Bowl center Olin Kreutz explains why this team has been enjoyable to watch: “The biggest compliment you can give this football team is they’re an enjoyable football team to watch. They are physical, the DBs are physical, CJ Gardner-Johnson is always talking trash, the defensive line is getting after the offensive line. On the offensive line, you’re going to find Jonah Jackson, you’re going to find Darnell Wright and they’re going to move people off the ball. They are not only winning football games, but they’re a true Chicago Bears football team. This Chicago Bears team, surprisingly for me from the start of the year, this is a good football team.”

I was having this conversation with friends at a holiday party I was at last night. The Bears being fun to watch begins in the trenches. None of Ben Johnson’s wizardry as an offensive play-caller works without a butt-kicking offensive line that sets the tone at the line of scrimmage. Investments via trade, free agency, and the NFL Draft in this unit have helped elevate what was one of the most disappointing groups to a collection of players that grade out as among the best in the NFL. If Chicago wins on Sunday, it will be because it won in the trenches.

    Bears roster up

The #Bears have signed OL Jordan McFadden to the active roster and waived LB Carl Jones Jr.Additionally, Chicago has elevated LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

    — Bears Communications (@BearsPR) December 6, 2025 How Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson went from feeling like he was going to be out for the year to gearing up for his second week back from a stint on injured reserve:

“It was staying committed to myself and committed to the process,” Johnson told Marquee Sports Network. “I wasn’t trying to listen to too many other things. I had to stay focused on what I was doing.

“There were some long nights and painful sessions and things like that to get me where I am. God has been carrying me. God has been talking to me and helping me move through this process. I’m going to continue to lean on Him for guidance, for strength. We’ll see where things go from here.”

Jaylon Johnson has been with the Bears since 2020. He has played 72 games, including eight against the Packers. This will be only the second time in which the Bears have had a winning record entering Packers Week. And this is definitely the latest in a season in which Chicago’s football team has had a winning record when facing Green Bay. I love that Jaylon is healthy enough to give it a go (even if it is in a limited capacity) in such a big game. Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard (13) is hit hard by Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson (33) in the third quarter during their football game Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. | © Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wis via Imagn Content Services, LLC Mark Potash (Sun-Times) writes that following a decisive win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday with a victory against the Packers could speak volumes about who the Bears are down the stretch. Four of the Bears’ final five games are against playoff contenders. And the one team that isn’t a contender (the Browns) features a defense starring Myles Garrett, who is a certified game-wrecker who is on pace to break the NFL’s all-time single-season sack record. I love that the Lion King viral parody has reached Bears running back Kyle Monangai. (Tribune)
