Now that Boston Blue has firmly set up Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) in Beantown, each episode feels like the series is finding its footing and setting the tone for the other characters. In the first season's seventh episode, "Baggage Claim", Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) comes face-to-face with a suspect who she's crossed paths with before, but whom she couldn't nail down as a murderer.
The show goes a little glam in the first scenes this week, as Danny and Lena are looking positively flawless to blend in at a black-tie event where they want to question a senator in connection with a woman's disappearance. Let's get into how all of this shakes out.

The episode opens with Danny and Lena walking through a black-tie function looking for a potential suspect—Senator Lowell. They’re investigating the disappearance of Clare Hayes, a woman who works at the hotel where the senator is staying and the event is being held. Witnesses saw the senator and Claire get into an argument in front of the hotel bar before she disappeared.
As it turns out, Senator Lowell has been a suspect in one of Lena's earliest cases as a detective, but she couldn't make it stick. Sarah (Maggie Lawson) calls Senator Lowell Lena’s white whale, her most elusive offender. Now, with the disappearance of another woman on her hands, she's determined to connect it to the senator and send him to prison for good.
Meanwhile, patrolling a park, Jonah (Marcus Scribner) and Sean (Mika Amonsen) come across a suitcase that is seeping blood. Danny and Lena arrive at the scene only to find that the body stuffed inside the suitcase is that of their missing woman.

Reverend Peters (Ernie Hudson) brings one of his congregation’s Sunday school teachers to meet with Sarah. The woman, Ava, tells Sarah that her sister, Joyce, a police officer with the Boston PD, threatened her boyfriend with a gun at a recent family barbecue. When Sarah confronts Joyce, she says she has had altercations with her sister’s boyfriend because he's abusive. When probed as to why she didn't go through the proper channels for reporting the abuse, Joyce admits those channels aren’t working because her sister is too scared to leave the boyfriend. Sarah suspends her for two weeks without pay.
Back from their patrol, Jonah and Sean are logging evidence and paperwork from a pick-pocketer named Eddie they picked up that day. A detective with a drug-sniffing dog comes by and discovers narcotics in one of the stolen items—a small leprechaun plushie. Hopeful that they can get some information from Eddie that will lead them to the source of the drugs, they follow him to a spot where he claims he stole the drug-ridden toy. Ultimately Eddie just tricks Sean and Jonah by leading them to a man he owes a lot of money. As soon as the guy spots Eddie, he starts to attack him making it so that Sean and Jonah have to arrest him, buying Eddie more time to repay his debt.
Lena and Danny have conflicting views on their case.
Convinced Senator Lowell murdered Clare, Lena is getting frustrated with Danny's seeming lack of trust in her instincts. But Danny assures her he just wants to make sure they're looking at the case with a wide lens.
Shortly after a rather tense conversation, the detectives hit upon something that helps them crack their case. They finally find their crime scene—the place where Clare was murdered. As it turns out Clare, an aspiring photojournalist, had been staked out at a construction site across the street from the hotel where she worked, trying to get photos of a Russian mob kingpin currently under D.A. surveillance on the seventh floor on the building. Trouble is, in her efforts she also sees Senator Lowell cavorting with his mistress one floor below the mobster. When he saw her taking pictures of him, he headed straight to the construction site and murdered her, leaving behind his DNA on the rebar he used to commit the crime. No longer her white whale, Lena can finally rest easier knowing she is putting this man behind bars.
Sarah hears a call about a hostage situation and believes it has something to do with Joyce and her sister Ava, and she's right. Ava's boyfriend is holding her hostage in their home while wielding a gun. Fortunately, Sarah is able to talk him down and get him to surrender.
Sean and Jonah get their guy.
While Eddie may have duped them the first time around, the chronic pick-pocketer was back in cuffs again shortly after the incident. This time he swears up and down that he can lead the rookies to the drug dealer they're trying to arrest. The three of them head back to the park and lo and behold, there's the guy they have been looking for—with a backpack full of leprechaun plushies filled with drugs. After a brief chase, Jonah and Sean make their arrest. And it's another Boston Blue episode in the books. Cases closed.
