New Zealand, the WTC Champions of the very first edition of the ICC World Test Championship, kick-started their latest WTC campaign earlier this week against the West Indies, who are yet to open their points tally despite having played multiple games.
The New Zealand National Cricket Team is one of the most well-known names in the history of the ICC World Test Championship. New Zealand were the Champions of the very first WTC final back in 2021 when they defeated India in the finals.
New Zealand begins their campaign with the West Indies, touring the island nation in December 2025 for a 3-match series in the longest format of the game. The Windies have lost all matches until now, with three losses to Australia and two against India.
After an unconvincing outing in the first innings, where Kane Williamson remained the pick of the batters, New Zealand orchestrated a comeback with Rachin Ravindra leading from the front.
New Zealand skipper Tom Latham played a stunning innings at the top of the order, but he needed some support with two early dismissals in the innings. Just then, Rachin Ravindra stepped in and backed Latham's century with another hundred.
The partnership between the two broke records, going past the 200-run mark, and New Zealand ended up scoring 400+ runs, which, added to their lead extended from the first innings, could have posed a target of 531 in front of the visitors.
Justin Greaves shows nerves of steel as West Indies have the first point on the WTC Points Table
The West Indies have struggled severely with the bat as their top order has repeatedly failed to contribute significantly. Even during the first innings, the West Indies were bowled out without breaching the 200-run mark.
Coming into the second innings of play, West Indies batters Shai Hope and Justin Greaves got hold of the innings. Hope, who is the only dependable player in the unit, scored a hundred and was backed by lower-order batter Greaves.
Greaves' century was slow-paced, and his innings were to safeguard the Windies from a collapse that could cost them another point in the WTC. Instead of opting for a win, he, alongside Kemar Roach, stabilized the innings further and helped them draw the game with 4 wickets in hand.
