Jackie Vernon, the comedian behind the 1969 animated holiday classic, was known as a devoted father of three. While raising kids with his wife Hazel, Vernon reportedly had other families he kept hidden — revealing a not-so-wholesome side of the beloved entertainer.

“It finally kind of came out that before our family, my dad had been married at least three other times, which I was kind of shocked to find out.”
David spoke about finding out about his dad’s older children, including one detail that seemed to bind them together.
“From these marriages, he had sons, and he named them all Ralph after himself—after his original name, Ralph Verrone,” he said. “But he also abandoned all these families, moved on.”
While his role in a Christmas classic made him seem like a wholesome family man, Jackie faced his own challenges out of the public eye.
In his later years, Jackie battled with depression and addiction, which David called “a hard struggle.” Still, before his death in 1987 at age 63, he found solace in Frosty.
“One of the last Christmases that my dad was around, we all watched it together and he was so proud of it,” David recalled. “He enjoyed it, he laughed at it. He was so happy he had done it and it became a very warm spot in his heart that I loved seeing that for him.”
