Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Star Bozoma Saint John Says Season 15 is A Turbulent Time (Exclusive)

In a word, Bozoma Saint John is iconic. While she only made her Real Housewives debut last season, Saint John was a powerhouse long before stepping into the Bravo spotlight. A trailblazing executive, she was Chief Marketing Officer at Netflix and even worked closely with Taylor Swift to launch Apple Music. But Saint John's personal story is just as poignant as her professional success, and she'll continue to share it all in Season 15 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which premieres on Bravo this Thursday, December 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

We got to sit down with Saint John and talk about everything from her new partnership with dairy-free food brand Violife to the drama that unfolds during Season 15, plus her wedding planning and fertility journey.

Parade: What can you tease about the new season?

Bozoma Saint John: I had a really great time. I enjoy the ladies. They’re all going through something. It is a turbulent time because everybody's relationships are sort of wibbly-wobbly and there's a lot of drama that comes as a result of that. But I enjoy it and part of the reason why I even wanted to join this franchise was because of that.

I like the depth of storytelling. I don’t need the petty arguments and the small surface things. It's a lot of fun to talk fashion and go shopping and have a cute little lunch, but I think it's really getting to the depth of what is happening in relationships — not just with a partner or a husband, but with our children who are at different stages of life.

For me, I’m on a new fertility journey. Like, oh my God, who told me to do that at my age? There’s depth in things that are going on and so I really enjoyed getting into that.

And then of course, my friend Rachel Zoe has joined the cast. And she’s exactly who you think she is — Rachel brings it. She is very opinionated and very fashionable. I think she makes some friends and also has some opinions where people are like, “Keep that to yourself.”

Congratulations on your engagement! Will all of the RHOBH ladies be invited to the wedding? Will any of them be bridesmaids?

Let me tell you something. First of all, my girl Dorit [Kemsley] is already planning a baby shower before I even started the fertility journey, okay! Homegirl probably believes that she shouldn’t even just be a bridesmaid. She probably thinks that she should officiate the wedding, so we’re gonna see! And then Rachel wants to style it. Kyle has all kinds of ideas since Alexia just got married. I think Kathy is like, “Hey, you wanna think about a Hilton property?” Everybody's got an opinion on something. And guess what? I actually will listen to people’s suggestions — they have good ideas.

Are you open to getting married on TV?

We've talked about it. It’s still early days — gotta figure out when we wanna get married, where we wanna get married — all of those things. But I'm open to it. Look, I think at this point, I’ve talked about going through fertility and having another baby and of course people met me on this show when I'd been dating Keely [Watson] for five months and now we’re going on two years. I feel like we’ve already been living our relationship on this thing; might as well let people come along on the whole journey. So we’ll see!

You were so clear about your needs in your relationship. What advice do you have for women to get a guy to commit?

I think that it's very hard to get a commitment or to build a future with someone who doesn't have the same values as you — at least foundationally. And that’s why I found it so interesting when people were like, “You guys are talking about having a baby, but you haven't said I love you." And I'm like, “Why would you be falling in love with somebody who doesn't want the same things you want?" I'm not 22 years old. I don’t have the time to be fooling around with people that don’t want the same things I want.

So having those very tough conversations early does not negate the love later or the commitment later. At the time, I was 47 and for me, my first objective was that I want to have another baby before we close up shop. And his commitment to that is then what allowed me to be like okay then let’s figure all this other stuff out.

The part that it felt like oh he’s not on the same page was timing. Because for a man — he doesn’t have a clock. He’s just like, “Oh, let’s have a baby in three years." And I'm like, “Dude, let's go ahead and get these eggs right now.” But my advice is you’ve gotta make sure you’re on the same page — at least on the values. Timing you can battle it out, but at least get on the same page and know that you both want the same thing.

Any update on your fertility journey?

You’re gonna have to watch. But I'm on it. It continues.

You have a partnership with Violife. Are you a non-dairy girly?

Well, here's the thing. I'm not a strict nondairy girly, but I prefer it. I've never been a cheese fan; I think it tastes like wax. And I don't drink milk. So I was kind of unofficially a dairy-free girl.

But then I discovered Violife. I was like, “Oh, this tastes good and it doesn't bother me. I can consume it." So their cream cheese or the creamer — oh girl, give me the creamer every day. I love it.

The Violife brand mantra is that it’s okay to break your own rules. What are your rules, and how often do you break them?

I feel like rule-breaking happens in evolution. Maybe I had a rule five years ago that I don’t necessarily subscribe to now. I’m big into my health and exercise, so I work out six days a week. During the pandemic, I would run in the morning to get my exercise. I was in tip-top shape, so I kept doing it. But then we were back outside and I was like, “I don’t need to do that every day.”

Of course, there are more serious rules that I have broken over time. In my career, I can't tell you how many rules I've broken — things that I imposed on myself, especially early in my career, looking up at senior leaders and being like, “How do I behave more like them? How do I dress like them? How do I get the things that they’re doing so I can be as successful as them?” And it just wasn’t working. No amount of time was going to turn me into a white man. Nothing was gonna work.

So yes, I can show up in a leather top or with my midriff out. There are many pictures of me in board rooms where an outfit was “inappropriate.” And so for me, I think sometimes rules no longer serve you and so you should break them, even if they are your own.
