Trey McBride continues to etch his name in the NFL history book

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride continues to be the biggest bright spot for the franchise.

With his first catch in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McBride (302 career receptions) surpassed legendary tight end Jimmy Graham (301) for the most catches by a tight end in his first four seasons in NFL history.

Given the work McBride has put in this year, especially with quarterback Jacoby Brissett stepping up in place of Kyler Murray, it felt very much like when, not if McBride would eclipse that mark in 2025.

    But wait, there’s more!

McBride also became just the sixth TE in NFL history with at least 80 catches and 800 receiving yards in three straight seasons with the catch.

And with two more catches on Sunday, McBride can surpass Tony Gonzalez (13 games) for the second-longest streak with at least five receptions by a tight end in NFL history. Only Travis Kelce (15) has more.

In an otherwise forgetful season, McBride is having a year to remember.

Heading into Sunday’s slate of games, McBride paced all NFL tight ends in catches (80) and receiving yards (797). He was tied with Philadelphia’s Dallas Goedert and Dallas’ Jake Ferguson in receiving touchdowns (seven).

A majority of those numbers has come with Brissett running the show, with McBride reeling in 51 footballs for 522 yards and six scores in the five games prior to Sunday’s tilt in Tampa Bay.

“I’ve become such a fan of him from afar when I wasn’t playing and then going out there and actually getting to play with him,” Brissett said two weeks ago. “He’s one of the best and he proves it day in and day out, week in and week out.

“I think the other teams know the strengths of his game and they try to take it away and he finds a way to fight through it.”
