Fairfield Warde High School and Westport/Weston Family YMCA’s Adrianna Spelman has committed to Iowa State University for the fall of 2027.
I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Iowa State University! I want to give a huge thank you to my family for always supporting me, and my teammates for always pushing me to be my best. Thank you to Ellen and the whole WRAT coaching staff, as well as my high school coach Z, for pushing me to become the best athlete and person I can be. Lastly thank you to Coach Matt and Coach Morgan for giving me this amazing opportunity and believing in me! I can’t wait to be a part of the cyclone family!!

Spelman, a native of Fairfield, Conn., competed at the YMCA Short Course Championships this past spring, where she set a personal best time of 2:01.58 in the 200 backstroke to earn 17th place. She also logged a best time in the 200 freestyle, leading off the 800 free relay in 1:53.28. Spelman additionally finished 30th in the 100 back (57.18), and 52nd in the 50 free (24.34).
Representing Fairfield Warde High School at the recent CIAC State Open Championships, she finished 2nd in the 100 back, clocking 57.29 as a junior. She also finished 6th in the 50 free in 24.38.
Spelman holds other notable bests in the 100 back (55.75), 50 free (23.99), and 100 free (52.33).

100 Back: 55.75 200 Back: 2:01.58 50 Free: 23.99 100 Free: 52.33 200 Free: 1:53.28The Iowa State women finished 10th out of 10 teams at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Based on Spelman’s best times, she would have placed 31st in the 200 back, 33rd in the 100 back, and 50th in the 200 free.
The Big 12 conference scores the top 24 swimmers in each event, showing that even with just under two seasons until she reaches the NCAA, she is a few spots from scoring position.
Spelman’s 100 back would have ranked on last season’s Iowa State roster, while 200 back would have ranked 4th.
Spelman joins Andi Clement in the Cyclones’ 2027 recruiting class.
