United Agents confirmed the heartbreaking news on Saturday, sharing that the award-winning screenwriter passed away “peacefully” at the age of 88 at his Dorset home with his family by his side.

    “Tom Stoppard was my favourite playwright. He leaves us with a majestic body of intellectual and amusing work. I will always miss him,” he wrote.

    Jagger’s fans also chimed in to pay their respects and to remember his greatness in the entertainment industry.

    “He was the greatest. ‘The Invention of Love’ on Broadway was transcendent.

    “He was a remarkable storyteller and craftsman of the English language,” another added.

    Born in Czechoslovakia in the early 1930s, Stoppard and his family fled their homeland during the Nazi occupation, eventually finding refuge in Britain.

    He began his career as a journalist in the 1950s before transitioning to writing plays for radio and television.

    The renowned playwright and screenwriter is best known for The Real Thing, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and co-writingShakespeare in Love are among his other notable works.
