Bears 24 Hour Rule: The Culture Shift Is Happening Right In Front Of Our Eyes

The Chicago Bears are 9-3 and are coming off a win over the defending Super Bowl champs in their house! What alternate reality universe are we living in?!

Let’s react to the big win from Ben Johnson’s crew a day after the fact.

    Bears 24 Hour Rule

That was the best Bears win since….? Honestly, I’m not sure I can remember one better since 2018. Several times over the years, when the Bears have pulled off upsets, it was with some smoke, mirrors, and good breaks. Yesterday was just flat-out bullyball. It was domination in the trenches, making the big play when they had to, and playing complementary football. That was a culture and coaching win more than anything else.

About two-and-a-half months ago, I wrote this post talking about Ben Johnson’s job being harder than expected due to the rotten culture here after the Bears essentially quit in their blowout loss in Detroit. Well, Johnson has hit the ground running with the difficult task of instilling his culture into the locker room and pulled it off in a big way. This team is good, they believe they’re good, and they believe they can beat anyone on any given day. It’s amazing that 365 days after the Bears fired Matt Eberflus on Black Friday, we’re talking about the amazing culture in Ben Johnson’s locker room.

Credit where it’s due to GM Ryan Poles. While he hasn’t been perfect, and some of the personnel decisions have Ben Johnson’s fingerprints on them, the offensive line has gone from the biggest weakness on the team to arguably its biggest strength. Chicago’s front five dominated, bullied, or whatever you want to call it, yesterday against one of the best defensive lines in football. In that weather, on the road, in the wind, the Bears knew they had to run the ball. And the offensive line answered the bell, clearing the way for two 100+ yard rushers. Philly knew the Bears wanted to run, and it just didn’t matter. Nov 28, 2025; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) celebrates after the game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher – Imagn Images Quarterback Caleb Williams was far from his best yesterday, but I felt like when the Bears really needed him to make a play, he came up big. There were a few really nice throws on third down, and of course, the dime over the top to Cole Kmet for the dagger touchdown. He most certainly needs to keep developing, most notably his footwork. I think the root cause of his inconsistent accuracy has been his wildly inconsistent footwork. As soon as he cleans that up, I think we’ll see him take another big leap forward. I think he’s taken a big step this year, but I still think he’s growing and developing. Give him another full offseason with Ben Johnson, and I think he’ll take another giant step forward. At the beginning of the season, I feel like most assumed D’Andre Swift was almost certainly going to be cut after the season, and running back would be a big offseason need. Now, it seems like that couldn’t be further from the truth. Swift has been outstanding, and his backfield partner, Kyle Monangai, has been every bit as good. What looked like, at worst, a weakness and, at best, a question mark for Ben Johnson’s team at the beginning of the season has turned into a giant strength. Nov 28, 2025; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift (4) scores a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles during the first quarter of the game at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images I know injuries are something every team deals with, especially this late in the season, but I’m really hoping we get to see Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen coach a fully healthy defense soon. He’s done such a nice job scraping together a unit of misfit toys throughout the Bears’ injury struggles on that side of the ball. Yesterday, the defensive backfield got healthy, and we saw Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon return. Hopefully, most of the unit can stay on the field in time to get T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds back, and we can see what Allen does with a relatively healthy group. It would be a whole lot of fun to watch. I still don’t love Cairo Santos as the Bears’ kicker, but credit where it’s due, he and the special teams have gotten better after a few consecutive weeks of having issues. Santos has been reliable kicking field goals, and he’s figured out the new kickoff rules a little bit. If the Bears want to keep winning against good teams and potentially in the playoffs, they must have solid special teams play. They can’t let the third phase cost them. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Black Friday with friends and family, and have a great rest of your weekend! I’m truly thankful for the BN community, especially during a Bears season like the one we’re having. Bear Down, and let’s beat the Packers!
