Frank Ragnow’s Unretirement is Already Over

Welp, the Frank Ragnow unretirement tour is over before it could even get started.

It was announced earlier in the week that Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowl center for the Detroit Lions, would be making a comeback. The story was a surprise, to be sure. But I imagine it was welcome news for Lions fans, who were in search of a spark and a boost to the offensive line. However, that isn’t happening now that Ragnow has failed his physical and will remain out of action.

Here is the announcement from the Lions:

Frank Ragnow’s 2025 comeback is already over

Am I reading this correctly? Was Frank Ragnow walking around with a Grade 3 hamstring strain? Better yet, did Ragnow think he could walk off the couch, leave retirement in the dust, and re-join the Lions in the thick of a playoff race despite having a high-level hamstring strain? If so, that is pretty bonkers. And, frankly, it is pretty commendable that a player was so willing to help his old teammates in a time of need.

Or maybe Frank Ragnow wasn’t in playing shape and this story makes it easier to let a valued veteran down easily. In any case, the Lions won’t have Ragnow this season. I wonder if he will try to make a comeback next year.
