Charles Leclerc has offered an honest and heartfelt reflection on the hardship faced by his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton, acknowledging the limits of what he can do to help the seven-time world champion adapt to life at Maranello.
Hamilton, F1’s most successful driver with seven world titles and over 100 wins, has struggled to make an impact in his first season with the Scuderia. The Briton’s difficulties were evident again at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where he qualified 20th and only managed to recover to 10th on the road – later upgraded to eighth after McLaren’s double disqualification.
Meanwhile, the SF-25 itself has also underperformed, with Leclerc scoring just seven podiums and no victories so far this season, a far cry from the championship battles fans dreamed of when Hamilton’s arrival was announced.
Hard to Give Advice
When asked in Qatar whether he could offer guidance to Hamilton, Leclerc was candid about his limitations.
“My job is obviously to maximise whatever I can control, and there are already so many things I’m focused on for myself and the team to make sure my driving fits the car in the best possible way,” Leclerc said, before reflecting on Hamilton’s extraordinary career.
“It’s obviously difficult for me to also spend time advising Lewis, who has achieved a lot more than I ever did. I don’t really have any advice to give him. But it’s certainly a long process.”
Leclerc’s words underscore both respect and realism – recognizing that even a driver of his caliber has limits when mentoring someone with Hamilton’s unparalleled experience and accomplishments.
Adapting to Ferrari Takes Time
Leclerc, who has been embedded in Ferrari since 2019 and has grown into the role of lead driver, contrasted his familiarity with the team to Hamilton’s newness.
“Whenever you join a new team… I don’t even remember what it’s like to join a new team,” Leclerc explained. “I’ve been at Ferrari for eight years, so I know how it works, and everything feels very natural.

Leclerc’s words provide insight into the unique challenges Hamilton faces, showing that even a driver of his legendary skill must adapt to a new environment, culture, and workflow – a process that can take far longer than many might expect.
