Miss Universe Haiti 2025, Melissa Queenie Sapini, is responding to the current pageant controversy with a bold, cryptic message.
On Nov. 26, a notice with Sapini's statement was shared directly with Parade, where the broadcast journalist and model addressed her harrowing experience in the competition.
While speaking out on her "emotional safety" as well as that of the 122 other women in the pageant, she admitted that the opportunity she once dreamed of, unfortunately, turned sour.
"I have spent my entire life dreaming of representing Haiti on the biggest stage in the world. But that dream quickly turned into a nightmare," Sapini's statement read. "Today, I am speaking out to protect the dignity and emotional safety of 122 women."
Continuing, the 22-year-old Massachusetts native revealed a bombshell: "Something was deeply wrong behind the scenes. We felt it. We saw it. We lived it. I personally witnessed gross misconduct at the Miss Universe pageant."
Sapini provided a few details regarding some of the prejudices she claims were at play: "You’ve seen the headlines. But what we went through was far worse. A rigged voting system. Judges with personal relationships with contestants. Blatant favoritism towards certain contestants based on the color of their skin."
In closing, she offered a cryptic sentiment, adding, "This is just the beginning. The truth is coming."
