ROCHESTER, N.Y. — On the 50th anniversary of the Flower City logo, Mayor Malik Evans announced plans to update the City of Rochester’s official flag.
Evans proposed legislation on Monday morning to add the Flower City logo to the official city flag. He also outlined the city’s plans for a full year of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the symbol, starting in 2026.
The announcement happened at 10 a.m. at the Rochester City Hall atrium. The mayor says the goal is to honor Rochester’s history while looking ahead to the next 50 years.
“I think we’d all agree that this flag does not appropriately represent our city today. So this week, I will be submitting a proposal to City Council to change the official city flag,” Evans said.
The city’s current flag features Nathaniel Rochester’s family’s coat of arms. It was adopted as the official flag in 1934.
