It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win, and LSU grabbed its second straight on Saturday night with a 13-10 victory over Western Kentucky at home.
Though the offense did little of note, the Tigers’ defense was unyielding all throughout the evening.
LSU held Western Kentucky to just 152 yards of total offense. The Hilltoppers gained 61 yards on the ground, adjusted for sacks. LSU dropped the quarterback for a loss 5 times and finished with 6 total tackles for a loss.
Western Kentucky averaged just 2.3 yards per play in the game and turned it over twice. It went 4-for-15 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down.
The game was there for WKU to take it all night long. The Hilltoppers had a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. But the LSU defense just never broke.
In 13 drives faced, LSU forced 5 total 3-and-outs, 3 turnovers on downs, and 2 interceptions. WKU gained just 3 first downs in the second half. Its only touchdown of the game came on a 71-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the closing minutes.
Michael Van Buren Jr. drew his second straight start at quarterback. He threw 42 times for 202 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Harlem Berry led the ground game with 80 yards on 18 carries, though he had the fumble late in the fourth.
LSU averaged just 4.2 yards per play and went 3-for-16 on third down.
The Tigers close out the regular season on the road next week against Oklahoma.
