Over the past few weeks, some fans have seen funeral photos and even tributes from family members, which Amy says were created by AI.
"I want to thank you for the overwhelming love and support that has come by way of emails, texts, DM's, snail mail, and sometimes drops on my doorstep since my Dad's passing. It's clear that he meant so much to so many, and I know that my family is humbled by the outpouring of stories and tributes from all corners of the globe," Amy wrote on Instagram on Nov. 19.
She went on to say that she's on the "social media learning curve.""That being said, there have been multiple Al versions of funerals, tributes, and quotes from members of my family that are fabrications. Renderings of my Dad who clearly has no say, and depictions of my family that do not represent anyone in a positive light are extra challenging during a difficult time. We are grieving together, and we are all in support of one another," she continued, adding, "We have not had a public funeral, we are working out our plans for a memorial in the future. Every family should have the ability to mourn, represent the person they lost, and pay homage in the way that fits their values and family culture best."
Amy acknowledged that "AI isn't going anywhere" and while she recognizes that some things are "created with good intent," she hopes that the use of AI becomes "transparent."Dozens of fans reacted to the post, letting Amy know that they loved her dad and that they are sending continuous love and prayers to the family.
Redford is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, and his two adult children, Amy and Shauna. He was pre-deceased by his son, James Redford, who died in 2020, after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer.
