It is so much easier to look forward to weekends when the Bears are close to the playoffs than they are the first pick up the upcoming NFL Draft.
Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson has made it clear that respect is earned, not given. And while there are still people who aren’t buying Chicago’s 7-3 start, it is notable that some notable national voices are taking notice of what the Bears are doing. For instance, take ESPN’s Adam Schefter and this snippet from his recent podcast episode:Last time the Bears were in first place in the NFC North through Week 11 was 2018, when Matt Nagy was their first-year HC and Mitch Trubisky was their second-year QB.A look at the Bears and the NFL with @tyschmit:? t.co/apvmdXisjM pic.twitter.com/W9wWSFhvOC

The beauty of any given NFL season is that any team, on any given game day, can win a game. And if your team can stack enough of those wins, it is easy to go from afterthought status to vying for a playoff spot at the drop of a helmet. Of course, a few losses can send your team into a spiral. But that makes it all the more important to bank wins earlier. In her visit with The Hoge and Jahns Podcast, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini shares that the Bears have caught the eyes of folks around the league:Bears turnaround has the NFL talking ??? NEW episode with Dianna Russini is out now! @adamjahns @AdamHoge @DMRussini pic.twitter.com/lOUjrE32e2
— Hoge & Jahns (@HogeAndJahns) November 19, 2025 Russini: “If anything, I find the league watching almost in awe and wanting to give them credit and belief because they know — everyone in football knows — what that was last year. The turnaround, without a doubt, is one of the stories of the year.” In quiet moments, I think about how we (the royal we) haven’t raised enough awareness as to how much thngs have changed in a calendar year for these Bears. Sure, we talk about culture change and the difference in results. But we haven’t leaned into how different it feels from where we were at this time last year. Stop and think about it for a moment.BEARS-STEELERS WEEK 12 STORYLINES
In November 2024, we were lining up potential coaching candidates and obsessively watching NFL Draft pick positioning. We spent more time looking at the tank standings than we did the actual standings. Every week brought a new moment of bumbling stupidity from Matt Eberflus as his days as a head coach were dwindling. It was an awful mess and the Bears were a laughing stock. These Bears aren’t those Bears. And I am thankful for it. As far as I’m concerned, this Howie Long segment on FOX captures the spirit of the thing:"Caleb Williams is must-watch TV" – Howie Long[image or embed]
— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing.bsky.social) November 17, 2025 at 8:45 AM No matter how things play out the rest of the year, it is worth banging the table and mentioning that the Bears — to this point of the year — have been must-see TV. So, yes, Howie is right. This team is entertaining. Enjoyable. They are never out of it. But because this group is far from a finished product in terms of building a squad in the vision of Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson, their opponents are never out of a game either. However, that makes for capitvating television. If you’re a Bears fan, you can’t walk away because you never what you might miss.ICYMI: Bears-Packers Week 14 Game Flexed to New Time
Another oof-inducing Bears injury report has put us one step closer to Chicago’s defense starting new linebackers. As the Trib’s Brad Biggs points out, this unit might be without Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards this week against the Steelers. Edwards has been dealing with a hamstring injury while also recovering from a hand injury. But Edmunds has been sitting out the last two practices with a groin injury. Friday’s participation report will tell us so much more about what could be on the horizon. But, hey, maybe they’ll get Jaylon Johnson back sooner than expected. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images It sure would’ve been nice had Bears GM Ryan Poles addressed linebacker depth in the offseason. Sure, I get that no team fills every hole or checks every box in the offseason. It’s just that the linebacker depth was an obvious one. Maybe Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen can get frisky and creative by subbing in safeties and cornerbacks in place of linebackers in certian spots. Don’t mind me. I’m just thinking out loud. Here’s something I never thought I’d put in BN Bears Bullets: Kansas City Chiefs Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub (who was in that role with the Bears from 2004-2012) sounds off on the United States president’s hot take about the NFL’s new kick off rules. Hours later, we got a cool return touchdown on Thursday Night Football. What a time four our timelines:Kirk Herbstreit: "This is what the NFL hoped to see with the rule change. People wanted to see more returns, more opportunities for returns like that." Al Michaels: "The league is getting what it wants. That's four kickoff returns for touchdowns this season." ??️ #NFL #TNF[image or embed]
— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing.bsky.social) November 20, 2025 at 9:22 PM More TNF Thoughts: I don’t know what is wrong with the Bills, but that team has no business losing to the Hosuton Texans. Don’t get me wrong. I know that short turnarounds on the road can be tough. And I realize that anyone can win on any given game day. However, I thought the Bills were too good to lose a game like that one. It won’t stop me from believing in that group’s chances of winning a Super Bowl. But it will make me take a longer look. On the other side of the ball, the Texans defense is too good for that team to have underperformed as much as it has this season. What’s up with that? That Bears safety Kevin Byard III has been to a Blackhawks game more recently than yours truly makes me think I should get out to the United Center at some point this winter:Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard in the United Center tonight pic.twitter.com/a8qr4DSO52
