Women’s Recap
The meet started with the Florida Atlantic team taking the top time in the women’s 200 medley relay at 1:41.07, beating Towson’s 1:41.89 by about eight tenths and American’s 1:42.24 by a little more than a second.
The Owls got out fast, with Meg Drover-Smith swimming 25.72 on the first leg to touch half-a-second ahead of Towson’s Addie Scott, who swam 26.22. American University had the fastest backstroke split with Piper Crosby splitting 25.30 to have the lead by about four tenths.
The breaststroke leg saw American maintain their lead with Maria Priddy splitting 28.29. FAU’s Bilu Bianchi split 28.28 and Towson’s Riley Willett was 28.28. Ludo Pavia swam the breaststroke leg on FAU’s ‘B’ relay, splitting 27.75 for the fastest time in the field.
The tide started turning on the butterfly leg with Towson’s Julianna Wahl touching in 24.36 to close the gap significantly on American who had Isabel McGovern‘s split 25.08. FAU’s Maja Piotrowicz swam 24.73 for the Owls to put them just six hundredths behind American.
Florida Atlantic anchor Izzy Jones had a massive 22.34 freestyle split to lock up the win for the team. Towson’s Ryland Zuniga was 23.04 to move the Tigers into 2nd place ahead of American who had Grace Gilbert split 23.57.
The 800 freestyle relay saw the Towson women’s team set a new meet record time of 7:20.94, taking down the former record of 7:21.67 set by George Mason in 2022.
The Tigers led from start to finish with Emilia Erikson swimming 1:51.23 to grab the lead for the team. Addie Scott swam 2nd, splitting 1:47.22, essentially locking up the win for the Tigers halfway through. Ryland Zuniga was 3rd in 1:51.37, and Summer Bontrager was 1:51.12 as the anchor.
Florida Atlantic finished 2nd in 7:26.65 with their team of Presley Staretz (1:51.99), Bry Bellile (1:51.42), Aura Vilarrasa (1:52.46), and Talitha McEwan (1:50.78).
Men’s Recap
The Towson men’s team started the meet with a new pool record time of 1:26.07, coming in a second-and-a-half ahead of FAU’s ‘B’ relay, who swam 1:27.43.
They took down their own pool record time of 1:26.46 from this meet in 2023.
Towson got out in front and stayed there, holding off a late charge from the Towson ‘B’ team. Sean Colson led off for the Tigers in 22.04. Jed Garner split 23.65 on the breaststroke. Ben Eischeid was 20.69 on the fly, and Daniel McLaughlin anchored the team in 19.69.
Florida Atlantic’s ‘B’ relay had faster splits on three of the four legs than the ‘A’ relay. James Shevchenko was 22.47 on the ‘B’ to Andrew Billitto‘s 22.81 on the ‘A’.
Jayden Repak followed that trend, splitting 24.39 on the breaststroke ‘B’ to John Reese Taylor‘s 24.46 on the ‘A’.
The only leg that saw a faster split on the ‘A’ relay was Rush Clark‘s 21.00 to Christoffer Weiss’s 21.32.
The anchor legs saw Leyton Roe split 19.25 secure the ‘B’ relay’s 2nd place finish at 1:27.43 with Daniel Laureyssen‘s 19.43 touching 3rd with the ‘A’ at 1:27.70.
Florida Atlantic won the men’s 800 freestyle relay in dominant fashion, touching in 6:28.86 nearly five seconds ahead of George Mason’s 6:33.29.
The first legs saw George Mason’s Tate Anderson get the Patriots out to the lead with his 1:36.09 coming in two tenths ahead of James Shevchenko‘s 1:36.29 for FAU.
From there, the Owls took over the lead for the rest of the race. Rush Clark split 1:38.35, outsplitting GMU’s Alex Crown who was 1:39.65.
Sabian Branch was 1:39.34 on the 3rd leg while Daniel Laureyssen‘s split 1:34.88 on the anchor to secure the win in another pool and meet record time of 6:28.86, breaking their own record of 6:31.01 from last year.
George Mason wrapped up with Cody Scifres who was 1:39.41 while Ryan Serbia was 1:38.14 to bring the Patriots home in 6:33.29.
