Bears Sound Off on Rodgers, Comparisons to 2018, Battles in the Trenches Are Coming Soon, and Other Thursday Bullets

That “it’s almost Friday” feeling hits different when you look forward to the upcoming Bears game.

The first injury reports of the week are out. In Pittsburgh, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ status remains uncertain. When it comes to Chicago’s football team, it is a pretty loaded injury report. However, I am coming to learn that first-year Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson tends to use the Wednesday as a rest day for players nursing injuries. Hence, I’m not freaking out about the list of players with DNP and LIMITED designations next to their names — even if the injury report looks like my most recent CVS receipt.

Worth sharing: The Steelers hosted workouts for quarterbacks Jason Bean and Tanner Mordecai. This could just be an example of Pittsburgh’s front office kicking the tires on some emergency options should things go sideways for Rodgers this week. The Steelers don’t have any quarterbacks on their practice squad, so they could be looking to sign someone as a desperation option if the worst-case scenario plays out. (Pro Football Talk) I’m digging the mentality from Bears safety Kevin Byard III:

    — Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) November 19, 2025 Guys like Ben Johnson and Kevin Byard are unencumbered by the Aaron Rodgers stuff. The mystique and aura mean nothing to them. Rodgers’ past against the Bears is of little importance to those guys because they weren’t here when the ex-Packers quarterback was torturing our favorite team for lo so many years. These are the leaders these Bears need to lean on in order to slay the dragon that is Pittsburgh’s QB1. And I believe in this group more than I have any other team since 2018. Take that for whatever it’s worth. Speaking of the 2018 Bears, Brad Biggs (Tribune) highlights the differences between that team and the 2025 squad in his latest Q&A mailbag. It’s worth your time to read in full. I don’t want to go too far down the rabbit hole, but the 2025 team has provided the most enjoyable watching experience since that 2018 squad. However, this group is doing it in different ways. It would be lazy to do one-for-one comps for those two teams. Hence, I’m avoiding it at all costs. Plus, I want to watch (and enjoy) this team for what it is right now. There is nothing wrong with living in the moment. Heck, we should probably do it more often. Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images Jason Lieser (Sun-Times) writes that the pursuit of the Bears’ first playoff appeaance since 2020 will help in the development and evaulation of quarterback Caleb Williams. It certainly will provide us with a new lens to view Chicago’s QB1. The upcoming Bears-Steelers game offers a wave of fun game-within-the-game matchups, particularly at the line of scrimmage. I’m glad Olin Kreutz highlighted them in this tweet. I’ll definitely have my popcorn ready for Sunday’s noon kickoff:

    — Olin kreutz (@olin_kreutz) November 18, 2025 Kyler Gordon’s return to practice means we are getting closer to seeing Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen scratch a creative itch. We (briefly) saw how Allen could deploy Gordon in unique ways. And we have seen the various usages of C.J. Gardner-Johnson early and often in his stint in Chicago. What will it look like when they are both on the field together? (Marquee) This is fun: “Madden NFL Cast” is making its way to Peacock for the Bengals-Ravens Thanksgiving game. (Awful Announcing)
