CW Finally Renews ‘Wild Cards’ — Season 3 Promises ‘Dangerous’ and ‘High-Stakes’ Drama

Wild Cards fans, it's time to celebrate.

After a six-month wait, fans finally know the fate of the Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti-led series.

On Nov. 19, The CW announced that the drama was renewed for a third season, bringing joy to fans everywhere. The question was never whether there would be a third season, as the CBC Television series, which airs first in Canada, was renewed for a third and fourth season back in May.

However, the production's fate was left uncertain stateside, as The CW did not indicate whether it would agree to air a third season at the time.

Thankfully, the cards were in our favor, and not only did the crime procedural get the greenlight for season 3, but we also have a premiere date, and it's coming sooner than we thought!

Wild Cards will return to The CW on Monday, Jan. 26 at 8/7 pm CT.

Morgan, who previously played Toni on Riverdale, will reprise her role as Max Mitchell, a con artist working alongside demoted detective Cole Ellis (played by Gianniotti). The duo's partnership continued well into season 2, as did their budding feelings for each other, and things are bound to get even messier considering the major cliffhanger that the series ended on.

The CW teased that season 3 will pick up one month after the season 2 finale, as Max now works as "an official police consultant."

Here come some spoilers, so look away if you're not caught up!

"Her world is immediately upended by two arrivals: First, Ellis returns to the force, cleared of all charges and ready to be her partner again. Second, the woman at Max's door is revealed to be her long-lost mother, Vivienne (Tamara Taylor), who Max believed was dead," the synopsis notes.

"Vivienne's shocking return ignites the dangerous, high-stakes events of Season 3 and further upends Max's already complicated relationship with Ellis," it concludes.

The series also stars Jason Priestley, Terry Chen, Michael Xavier, Amy Goodmurphy, Fletcher Donovan, Giacomo Baessato and Karin Konoval, along with a special appearance from Martin Sheen in Season 2.

Production on the third season got underway in August, according to Gianniotti's Instagram post with Morgan, as he admitted, "Wild Cards is back …. ALRIGHT! ??? So happy and grateful to be back in Vancouver shooting this incredible show, with incredible people in front of and behind the camera."

He went on to shout out his co-stars and the incredible fans, concluding, "We love you right back and are very hard at work to bring you more OUT OF THIS WORLD, WILD CARDS, upping the ante with every season."
