Ricky Martin Reveals Why Palm Royale Feels Like His Soap Opera Days Again (Exclusive)

Ricky Martin is no stranger to the soap opera world, having played Miguel Morez on General Hospital. The actor and singer laughed in an exclusive interview with Parade that everything happening in Season 2 of Palm Royale brought him back to his soap days.

"Something happens and Maxine [played by Kristen Wiig] is running," he recalls about the hit Apple TV series. "And she leaves the room, and I'm like, 'Can we have a day, a normal day in this city?'"

"Because it was overwhelming and exhausting," he admitted with a laugh. "Everything. And just reading it was like, 'Oh my God, what is this? What's gonna happen?'"

Although it can be a lot, Martin, who plays Robert Diaz in the star-studded series, is "very honored" to be part of the project and to be able to sing in it. "I'm very honored to tell the story of a gay man in the '60s with this project, so it's been nothing but a gift," he added.

While the show is "so big," Martin's co-star Leslie Bibb pointed out that series creator and showrunner Abe Sylvia has an incredible way of grounding the Palm Royale characters.

"I don't know how he does it, but we're doing these extraordinary things, these outlandish things, and at the base of them, all the characters are somehow rooted," Bibb told Parade. "There's a basement for every character. Their feet are somehow planted on the ground, even though they're not, but you can relate to them."

"Sometimes when people get so big, you're like, 'Oh, we're not, you know, you can't.' You're like, 'That's over there,' and you're laughing at it from over there. Somehow, you're like, 'No, I would probably do that. Yeah. I would steal a dead body,'" The White Lotus alum continued, referencing her character Dinah Donahue in Episode 2. "'Nope, I would do that to get Laura Dern out of jail. Yeah, that's exactly what I would do.'"

"It's funny, but I think we're all little kids in this show," Martin chimed in. "That's what it was."

Bibb went from filming The White Lotus in Thailand to working on the second season of Palm Royale. Remembering her first day back on the set of the Apple TV comedy series, Bibb said, "I'm dressed in black with these big glasses with this massive hat on, and I'm stealing a dead body, running down Huntington Gardens with a gurney and I was like, 'Oh yeah, I'm not in Thailand anymore.'" But, both The White Lotus and Palm Royale were "equally fun."

As for how the women of Palm Royale would fare at a White Lotus resort? Bibb remarked they're "all cut from [the same cloth]." Discussing the scene in Season 1 when Maxine is introduced to Evelyn, Dinah, Mary and Raquel at the Palm Royale club, Bibb said, "I mean, if that's not a breakfast scene for a White Lotus, I've never seen one. I mean, all of these women would be so quickly at a White Lotus resort."

Season 2 of Palm Royale premiered Nov. 12 on Apple TV. New episodes will be released weekly through Jan. 14, 2026.
