2025 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Championships
Nov. 13-14 Iowa City, Iowa SCY (25 yards) ResultsDowling Catholic girls swimming and diving coach Paul Eure wanted his girls to do one thing entering the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Championships.
“Our girls really came in ready to fight,” Eure said to the Des Moines Register. “That was kind of the mantra all year was, ‘Let’s put up a fight. We got a meet ahead of us’. Cedar Falls swam great last weekend at the regional meet, so we didn’t know what to really expect this weekend, so our girls were ready.”
Dowling Catholic did more than put up a fight, winning the event easily and successfully defending the state champion it won last year.
The Maroons finished with 340 points, well ahead of runner-up Cedar Falls (264).
Dowling Catholic won going away despite finishing first in just two events.
Sophomore Kimber Corwin won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:03.43.
“That was just so exciting to finally do that,” Corwin said to the Des Moines Register. “It’s always been a dream of mine to be up there … on the podium, so it just felt so nice. It felt so rewarding.”
Later, the team of Charlotte Qualley (51.70), Corwin (52.38), Mary Honkamp (51.68) and Sassy Hassett (52.05) won the 400 free relay in 3:27.78.
