Alternative rock fans were stunned on Nov. 18 when My Chemical Romance and The Used announced a show together for Halloween 2026. The two ultra-popular emo bands ended their friendship in the early 2000s and carried on a decades-long feud, so the announcement marks the end of an iconic rock rivalry.
"Friday, October 30, 2026 - Devils Night with special guest @theused," said the barebones announcement on MCR's Instagram. The band, which broke up in 2013 and reunited for the first time in 2019, was already set to perform three nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, so the two additional nights were a welcome surprise. The Halloween show on the 31st will feature Thrice.

In their own announcement, The Used wrote that they were "incredibly honored to be joining our old friends @mychemicalromance on Devils Night 10/30 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles." Tickets for the event go on sale at 9 a.m. on Nov. 21, 2025.
Fans were shocked and thrilled to hear the news, and quickly took to the comments to share their thoughts. "Mom and dad aren’t fighting anymore?" asked one fan, while another added, "THE WORLD IS HEALING!" A third wrote, "You don’t understand unless you saw it from the beginning. This will heal us all."

The bands, whose lead singers Bert McCracken and Gerard Way were formerly close friends, toured together often in the early 2000s.
When The Used and MCR both appeared on the lineup for When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas in October 2024, many fans hoped My Chemical Romance would bring out their old friends during their headlining set, and were disappointed when it didn't happen.
The bands began as pals after McCracken "discovered" My Chem, took them on their first tour, and insisted his record label sign them. Unfortunately, the friendship soured in the mid-2000s.

McCracken recently opened up about the reasons behind their feud in an interview with Jackass star Steve-O in October, admitting that he was "hurt" when Way got sober before he did. "We had a really beautiful friendship. Super close," he said. "We've had this long-standing joke where it's been like, we're frenemies... It's only coming from my side."
"I didn't understand that [he needed to leave the party scene to focus on sobriety] at the time," McCracken recalled. "He was trying to tell me that I'm f--ked up. I'm like, 'Dude, you're f--ked up!' There was a moment where I was pretty hurt about the end of our relationship.'

Luckily, he also shared that they were back on good terms on the podcast. "We've talked since, and like I've run into him. Super cool. I was like, let's go get coffee," he said, following with a string of compliments for his former creative collaborator. "It's been chill. He's an amazing human being. Super talented, creative. He does it all. Full respect."
He even jokingly asked MCR to "take them out on tour" at the time, adding, "it would break the internet. We're ready whenever they want us." If fans' reactions to the single show together are any indication, he was correct.
