If you were wondering why the Chicago Bears running game is starting to click, running back D’Andre Swift has the answers you are looking for after the team’s Week 11 win against the Minnesota Vikings.
While talking shop with FOX broadcaster (and future Pro Football Hall of Famer) Tom Brady, Swift — the recipient of Brady’s LFG Player of the Game award — explained why it looks like the Bears’ rushing attack is starting to hit on all cylinders:

Words from D’Andre Swift:
“Just everybody being on the details. We knew we were close. It wasn’t what we wanted to be early on in the season. But like you said, after the bye, everybody started clicking. O-line, permieter blocking, they turn 8-yard gains into explosives.”
This makes sense to me! D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai deserve their flowers for making the most of the opportunities they’re getting and continuing to bang through the line of scrimmage. But Swift nails it when crediting the offensive line and perimeter blocking. Right tackle Darnell Wright has Pro Football Focus’ ninth-best run-blocking grade among offensive tackles. Next to Wright is right guard Jonah Jackson, who PFF has as the 16th-highest-graded run-blocking guard. Center Joe Thuney has the sixth-best run-blocking grade at PFF.
Let’s let it be known that it isn’t just the offensive linemen pulling their weight as blockers. Rookie tight end Colston Loveland has the fifth-best run-blocking grade among players at his position. Wide receivers Olamide Zaccheus, Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and Luther Burden III have all shown a willigness (and sometimes, a proficiency) in run blocking. It has taken some time for the ball to get rolling on the ground.

When Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson handed out game balls after the team’s wild win against the Vikings in Week 11, there was one glaring omission — running back D’Andre Swift.
Don’t get me wrong. Kicker Cairo Santos deserved a game ball for booting the game-winner. Not everyone gets a shot at redemption. And not everyone makes the most of that opportunity. But Cairo checked both boxes, so his game ball is valid. Kick returner Devin Duvernay also received a game ball for his efforts. His 50+ yard return set the stage for Santos’ game-winner. Everyone has been waiting for Duvernay, a two-time Pro Bowl return ace, to make an impact. He did. Hence, it makes sense that Duvernay got a ball. Bears President Kevin Warren got a ball, too. It was an early birthday present from the Bears head coach to someone who relished winning in Minnesota. I get it.
And yet, I can’t stop thinking about how D’Andre Swift should’ve gotten a game ball for his contributions to the win. But, hey, getting LFG Player of the Game honors from Tom Brady is pretty sweet.
Let’s look at D’Andre Swift’s stat line from the Bears’ Week 12 win against the Minnesota Vikings:
21 carries 90 rushing yards 4.3 yards per carrySwift didn’t score any touchdowns. And he had just one run that went for 10+ yards. But he had four carries that moved the chains for first downs. Swift also came through with a 7-yard run on 3rd-and-8 to turn what would have been a 55-yard field goal attempt by Cairo Santos and make it a more manageable 48-yarder. That last carry wasn’t ever going to end up on highlight clips on postgame shows because it was a hard-nosed, downhill run that didn’t even convert a first down. However, it was arguably one of the most important moments of the game. That was a clutch play in that moment, and I knew I had to acknowledge it in a post.

Swift’s rushing efforts on Sunday brought his season totals to 134 carries and 634 rushing yards. His Week 11 showing put him on pace to finish the 2025 season with 238 carries, 1,127 rushing yards, and 7 touchdowns. Teaming D’Andre Swift with rookie running back Kyle Monangai appears to be working out for all parties. Swift gets a lighter load to shoulder, which should keep him fresh for the stretch run. Monangai gets to show off his bruising running style, which makes for a nice complement to what Swift brings to the backfield. And Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson gets a 1-2 punch that plays similarly to the Jahmyr Gibbs-David Montgomery duo he had while with the Detroit Lions.

I’m not sure what the long-term future holds for D’Andre Swift. But for right now, I like what is going on with him and Kyle Monangai in the backfield. This two-back system has the right mix of what you’d want from a backfield tandem. These guys might not put up great fanasy numbers weekly, but they are contributing to Bears wins every Sunday. And isn’t that what matters the most?
