Not to be confused with the recently-announced Contemporary Baseball Era ballot (for modern-ish players who’d fallen off the traditional ballot), the National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot is out for this year, complete with 12 new names. I’m not sure there will be any first-ballot guys this year – old friend Cole Hamels might be the closest – but it’s possible some holdovers will make the cut.

Given the relatively weak crop of first-timers, and given that he’d already made a huge leap last year as we got more distance from the Houston sign-stealing scandal, I’d say it’s a pretty good bet that Carlos Beltran clears 75% this time around. Andruw Jones has a decent shot, too.
Beyond them, though, there’s almost certainly no one on the ballot who’s going to reach 75%. Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez put up Hall-of-Fame-caliber numbers in their careers, but the PED association has thus far held back every other player. Chase Utley will continue to climb, I expect, but guys with his level of career generally take a lot of years to develop the support necessary for enshrinement, if it comes at all.
Feels like Bobby Abreu should be getting more support than he does, and both Felix Hernández and Mark Buehrle are probably going to pick up votes as we get further into an era where starting pitcher careers just don’t look like we’re used to seeing from the top guys.
