Baseball America’s Post-2025 Top-Ten Cubs Prospects List and Discussion

Baseball America’s updated Chicago Cubs top-ten prospects list is out for the after-season period (i.e., after all the data is in, more scouting has been completed, and conversations with and around the org), and it’s definitely worth checking out for the prospect nerds among you.

What names in the Cubs system should you keep an eye on in 2026? We've updated our top 10 prospects list + new scouting reports: t.co/FecQZzkM9p pic.twitter.com/GTOfQAiLdQ

BA has an updated scouting report for each of the top-ten prospects, which you can see over here in the premium article.

One thing that should LEAP out at you in the top-ten: just one pitching prospect. It’s a very, very good pitching prospect in Jaxon Wiggins, but that imbalance is absolutely a concern, and the pitching half of the system comes in for significant discussion in the associated BA chat. It’s not that there aren’t other pitching prospects in the system who might contribute and/or blossom into more significant prospects, but it is not currently seen as a robust group. (I wonder to what extent we’re seeing a little bit of a slide after VP of Pitching Craig Breslow’s exit a couple years ago.)

All the more reason for the Cubs to be confident and aggressive in signing useful starting pitchers to medium+ length deals this offseason, by the way. There aren’t a ton of near-ready, impact-caliber starting pitching prospects right there to block.

Among the other things that jumped out at me, relatively high praise for Kane Kepley following his stellar pro debut (probably the best pro debut of any college hitter). The profile is still potentially a little limited overall – line drive contact, elite speed and defense – but I love that Geoff Pontes described the possible ceiling as “Nico Hoerner as a CF.”

Cole Mathis is still holding strong even after a limited 2025 pro debut (Tommy John surgery after the draft in 2024). It’s not hard to imagine the Cubs’ positional group looking really strong next year if he breaks out, if Ethan Conrad hits like we think he can, and if Jefferson Rojas takes another step forward.

Much more to enjoy at BA, from the list to the chat to the superlatives.
