Let me preface this by saying Caleb Williams showed that he still has a lot of work to do to reach the heights he wants as a quarterback. Sunday’s numbers were underwhelming. Williams completed just 16 of 32 passes for 193 yards. He didn’t throw an interception, but he didn’t throw for any touchdowns either. QB1 finished with a 68.9 passer rating, which was his worst showing since the 61.7 he posted in the team’s win against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.
And yet, Caleb Williams still found a new way to rewrite the Bears record books:
With today's #Bears comeback, Caleb Williams has set the single-season record for most fourth-quarter comebacks by a QB in franchise history. He's also tied the NFL record for most fourth-quarter comebacks by any QB in their first two seasons in league history (7; P.Manning,…
— Zack Pearson (@Zack_Pearson) November 16, 2025The fun fact above via Bear Report’s Zack Pearson points out that Caleb Williams now has the team’s single-season record for most fourth-quarter comebacks for a Bears quarterback in franchise history. Pearson also shares the nugget that Williams is tied for most fourth-quarter comebacks by any quarterback in their first two seasons. Caleb’s seven fourth-quarter comebacks ties him with Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, Jake Plummer, Bo Nix, Jay Schroeder, and Josh Freeman. What a group!
The Bears are a team has been playing professional football for more than a century. And it’s not as if there haven’t been opportunities for comebacks. It’s just that so many signal callers fell short when given those opportunities in the past. Hence, it is nice to see a quarterback who makes the most of the opportunities and comes through in the clutch. Don’t get me wrong. I know that kick returner Devin Duvernay and kicker Cairo Santos did the heavy lifting at the end. But Caleb Williams still gets credit. So don’t yell at me. Go argue with a wall.

A Caleb Williams Progress Report — Week 11

Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-Imagn ImagesAt this time last week, Williams was on pace ot be the first 4,000-yard passer in Bears franchise history. But Sunday’s performance against the Vikings put him below that 4,000-yard pace he was on going into the Week 11 matchup. However, Caleb is still on pace to set the franchise record for passing yards. Erik Kramer’s 3,838-yard season in 1995 is in jeopardy of falling to No. 2 on the list if Caleb Williams continues to keep up at this pace. It would be nice to see a new name on atop the list. But it would be truly grand to see Williams check two boxes in one fell swoop.
If you’re looking for some optimism after Sunday’s performance, this factoid did the trick for me. And now, I’m sharing it with you:
Caleb Williams still 11th in ANYA and Bears still 11th in dropback EPA. normal mediocre game against Brian Flores in his dome. Lot of other higher ranked qbs struggled this week as well. Didn't move the needle on his season at all.
— StartKyleOrton (@startkyIeorton) November 17, 2025Sometimes, all you have to do is turn to some advanced metrics to feel better about the quarterback situation. And to think, that is such a wild statement to write when you consider how advanced metrics rarely have made me feel good about Bears signal callers of the past. What a time to be alive.
If the nerd numbers (complimentary) don’t make you feel better, then perhaps this quote from Caleb Williams (via the Bears’ official website) will do the trick:
“I think the belief that we’ve grown within the locker room is what changed. That’s been the biggest thing throughout the season so far is the belief, and when you have belief, when you have trust between each other, these moments don’t seem too big. These moments are a lot smaller. Everybody’s a lot more focused. Everybody’s a lot more poised when something goes wrong.”
That Caleb Williams quote perfectly captures the difference between where the Bears are now and where they were in Week 1. Those words go a long way toward explaining how much growth this team has made. This group had no reason to have the belief it did on Sunday back in Week 1 when facing a similar situation. For all the conversations of the past about how the Bears needed to learn how to win, it turns out that winning is what helps you learn how to win. Having a quarterback who embodies that spirit helps.
