More Epstein revelations are coming soon. Trump and Andrew should be afraid

WASHINGTON, DC – As stories continue to emerge, Donald Trump appears increasingly desperate to head off any further revelations about his conduct arising from documents linked to the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

But within days, his options are expected to narrow.

The House of Representatives is likely to vote in favour of requiring the Department of Justice to release every document in its possession relating to the deceased financier. Both Trump and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may have good reason to fear what that release will mean for them.

A trove of more than 20,000 emails already published by the House Oversight Committee is fuelling fresh questions about the nature of Epstein’s relationship with both men.

First, there was the sex trafficker’s 2011 claim that the President once “spent hours at my house” with one of the victims, whose name was redacted but whom the White House identified as the late Virginia Giuffre, pointing to her comments that she never saw Trump do anything untoward. Epstein also wrote in 2019 that “of course” Trump “knew about the girls”.

For Andrew, now wanted for questioning by the Committee, there are also burgeoning new problems. In January 2015, days after he was named in court documents, Epstein’s now-jailed ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell told the financier: “I have to distance myself from you in a statement … they need me to say I was not aware of massage w/andrew in my house.”

In his reply, Epstein wrote: “I am on the phone with another attny [sic] getting you an answer.”

The former Duke of York has steadfastly denied all allegations of impropriety, and questioned the authenticity of a photograph showing him with Giuffre at Maxwell’s London home. One of Epstein’s emails appears to confirm the pair were photographed together.

After Epstein was released from prison in Florida, where he served almost 13 months of an 18-month sentence for procurement, he was told by his advisers to avoid any further contact with the royal.

The newly released documents show that PR firm Osborne and Partners submitted a document titled “Issues of Reputation” advising Epstein of ways in which he could repair his image. The document warned Epstein that it would be “disastrous for you to be seen in any way to facilitate [Andrew’s] lifestyle, or to help with his well-documented issues”.

Five years later, in an email exchange, Epstein would tell former Lord Mandelson, who resigned in September as the UK’s ambassador to Washington, that “in hindsight you were right about staying away from Andrew”.

It has also been revealed that in January 2010, Epstein told his friend Boris Nikolic, a former adviser to Microsoft founder (and Epstein buddy) Bill Gates, that Andrew was “great fun”, and urged him to meet the Duke at the World Economic Forum in Davos. They subsequently did meet there, and Nikolic wrote back to Epstein to affirm that Andrew “is great”.

With many more documents in his government’s possession, Trump is working overtime simultaneously to prevent their release, but also to divert the public’s attention elsewhere.

On Friday, he ordered his Attorney General Pam Bondi to launch a probe of Epstein’s ties to former President Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, LinkedIn founder, prominent Democratic Party funder Reid Hoffman and JPMorgan Chase, the Wall Street behemoth that provided banking services to the financier. All have denied the allegations against them.

Bondi confirmed she was acting on the President’s order, which itself is a stunning revelation of the extent to which she has turned the Department of Justice into Trump’s personal office of retribution, eviscerating its traditional independence of political influence.

Trump’s biggest immediate problem, however, comes in the form of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia Republican who is demanding the release of all the Epstein documents, and increasingly casting herself as the authentic leader of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement.

In a furious social media post on Friday night, Trump withdrew all support for Greene, calling her a “ranting Lunatic”. He also encouraged “wonderful, Conservative people” in Georgia to launch a primary challenge against a woman who – until recently – was one of Trump’s most loyal acolytes, but is now reportedly mulling a 2028 presidential bid of her own.

Responding, Greene issued what she called an “ultimate warning to all of my Republican colleagues … You vote NO on Tuesday to release the Epstein files and face severe outrage from America.” Greene knows that many of the Maga faithful want answers about Epstein, and believe the White House is now actively engaged in a cover-up of Trump’s relationship with him.

On Saturday, she claimed the President’s social media post resulted in “a hot bed of threats against me…being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world. The man I supported and helped get elected.”

To be clear, the vote in the full House of Representatives will not lead to the Epstein files’ immediate release.

The measure faces an uphill battle to win required backing in the US Senate, and Trump retains the power to veto the measure in the unlikely event that it reaches his desk.

But schisms within his Maga movement, coupled with the coming House vote, are intensifying pressure on him, and demonstrating that the Epstein scandal remains a slow-burning depth charge beneath his White House.
