The Hongqi Bridge in Maerkang city carries National Highway 317, a major route between Tibet and China.
Authorities closed and evacuated the bridge on Monday after detecting mountain-slope deformation near the bridge.
Then the slope failed completely on Tuesday, topping some of the bridge’s tall piers.
Contractor Sichuan Road & Bridge Group had earlier this year posted a video of the bridge’s completion on social media.
There is currently no estimated timeline for the highway’s reopening, China Daily reports.
