NBA Monday Madness: Magic & Heat Both Win at the Buzzer (And Make Some History)

The NBA just wrapped up its craziest night yet of the regular season.

Both the Heat and Magic walked away victorious thanks to a spectacular buzzer-beating play. The first of the night came in Orlando, where Desmond Bane had his first signature moment as part of the Magic organization. Tied with the Portland Trail Blazers at 112 apiece with 1.9 seconds left, he ran toward Franz Wagner to retrieve the inbound. Despite having All-Defensive Team forward Toumani Camara draped all over him, Bane rose for the off-balance triple … and got nothing but net.

To say Magic fans and his teammates went nuts would be an understatement …

Not long after Bane’s heroics, Andrew Wiggins decided to put on his cape for the Miami Heat. Battling in a high-scoring OT game and tied 138-138, the Heat were looking to inbound the ball from their own sideline with a mere 0.4 seconds left on the clock.

Erik Spoelstra drew up a beauty. As Norman Powell ran straight through the middle of the floor to the perimeter, Davion Mitchell put his hip into De’Andre Hunter and helped Andrew Wiggins make a clean break for the rim. The forward ended up wide-open for the alley-oop slam and incredible buzzer-beater victory.

Another absolutely awesome team and crowd celebration …

To make things even more impressive, the two buzzer-beaters made some new NBA history. According to ESPN Insights, this is the first time the league has ever seen two teams that share a state win on a game-winning buzzer-beater on the same night. I guess something was in the Florida air tonight!

By the way, these were not the only incredible wins on this jam-packed Monday night. The Pistons came back to beat the Wizards in OT behind 46 points from Cade Cunningham. But that’s not all! The Detroit superstar shot the ball a ridiculous 46 times, and his 31 missed field goals are apparently the most since the 1976-77 merger.

The Milwaukee Bucks also got their own clutch play to clinch a victory over the Dallas Mavericks on the road. Kyle Kuzma came through huge by stealing an inbound and slamming it through the rim with 14.9 seconds left. The bucket spoiled Cooper Flagg’s career-high scoring night (26).

You’ve got to love a random Monday in the Association!
