Blackhawks 5, Red Wings 1 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways

The first period was the full Artyom Levshunov experience. He picked up an helper on the Blackhawks power play goal to open the scoring, but then got tripped up and kicked in a loose puck around the net for the equalizer. Overall he had a good first period defensively, though.

Special teams became the story in the second period. Connor Murphy went to the box twice in the first period, with the second carrying over to the start of the second period. Tyler Bertuzzi was called for roughing and unsportsmanlike minors in the final minutes of the second period (it also carried over to the next period). The Blackhawks killed all of those minutes — and had two power play goals of their own to take a lead to the third period.

When the Blackhawks finally got a call and a power play in the third period, Bertuzzi scored to extend the lead to two. The Blackhawks’ power play was perfect on three advantages.

I am going to break from my usual protocol in naming a player who scored his first career NHL goal as one of my three stars because of how the game played out, but Oliver Moore was terrific today and scored his first in the league late in the third period. Here it is:

    Star 1: Arvid Söderblom

Söderblom was the biggest reason the Blackhawks were up one after two periods. Detroit had a 28-11 shot attempt advantage thru 20 minutes, with the Blackhawks blocking eight shots (two by Levshunov). The Red Wings had a 50-11 shot attempt advantage thru two periods, including a 7-3 high danger chance advantage. Detroit had one goal to show for it. Söderblom stopped 44 of 45 in the win.

    Star 2: Connor Bedard

It took one shot and only 59 seconds for Bedard to extend his point streak and give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. He picked up an assist on the Blackhawks’ power play goal in the third to reach 24 points on the season, putting him in a tie for the league lead. His assist on the empty net goal late put him into the league lead with 25 points — by himself.

    Star 3: Penalty Killers

The Blackhawks did not do a good job of staying out of the box. They did do a good job of killing all five of Detroit’s power play, though.

    Key Takeaways

Teuvo Teräväinen rifled home the Blackhawks’ second power play goal of the game to take the lead and also had an assist on Bedard’s goal in the first period.

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 9, 2025 Bertuzzi had an assist on the Teräväinen goal. It’s his first helper since Oct. 23. Of course he had six goals between assists. Here’s his power play goal from the third period:

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 9, 2025 André Burakovsky picked up an assist on the second power play goal. He had a point in five of the six games on the road trip. He added an empty net goal to push the lead to three. Levshunov’s assist on Bedard’s power play goal in the opening minute gives him an assist in six of his last seven games. He added a second assist on Bertuzzi’s power play goal. Levshunov now has four power-play assists in three games since moving to PP1. Moore had a couple great scoring chances in the middle of the first period but was denied twice by John Gibson. I love that he followed his initial shot and got a second one off the rebound. Moore led the Blackhawks with four shots on goal in the first period and had a team-high 0.5 expected Goals For while he was on the ice at 5-on-5.

    — Charlie Roumeliotis (@CRoumeliotis) November 9, 2025 Nick Foligno and Ryan Greene both won 7 of 12 faceoffs thru two periods. Frank Nazar was on the ice for warm-ups but did not go. Ilya Mikheyev was initially listed as a scratch but that was swapped just before the game began.
