UNC Football Holds Off Late Stanford Comeback, Wins 2nd Straight ACC Game

UNC’s defense recorded a season-high nine sacks and held off a late Stanford rally to beat the Cardinal 20-15 at Kenan Stadium Saturday night. It’s Carolina’s second straight win.

Reigning ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week Melkart Abou-Jaoude accounted for three of the Tar Heel sacks, giving him 10 on the season. It’s the most in a single season by a Tar Heel since Kareem Martin recorded 11.5 in 2013.

On offense, Jordan Shipp recorded his longest career reception with a 55-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. It was one of two passing touchdowns for quarterback Gio Lopez on the night.

With the win, Carolina improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in ACC play. The Tar Heels will be back in action next weekend when they visit Wake Forest in Winston-Salem at 4:30 p.m.
