What Travel Experts Wish You Knew Before Booking an All-Inclusive Trip in 2027

Booking an all-inclusive beach vacation used to feel like the simplest transaction in travel: choose a sunny destination, pay one upfront rate, and leave your wallet in the hotel safe.

In reality, navigating today’s all-inclusive market has become a complicated guessing game. Between post-pandemic pricing shifts, rising dining costs, and dozens of high-end resorts opening their doors across Mexico and the Caribbean, conventional booking wisdom is quietly costing travelers thousands of dollars.

According to travel experts, scoring an elevated beach getaway in 2027 for less than the sticker price comes down to knowing how resorts actually set their rates.

“With a typical vacation, it’s tricky to budget for all the food and incidentals. A lot of travelers don’t realize how much food costs have gone up (restaurant prices are up 3.5% over the past year!),” says Sally French, NerdWallet travel expert and co-host of the Smart Travel Podcast. “All-inclusives make it much easier to budget—and often they net out cheaper once all the other costs add up.”

Why Kid-Free Vacations Might Actually Be Cheaper

If you’ve been wanting to try one of the new luxury adults-only resorts, you might assume that the upgrade comes with a much higher price tag.

“This is not true!” French explains. “In fact, I recently went to two sister properties, Secrets and Dreams Playa Mujeres. Secrets (the adults-only property) was even recently renovated, yet we found Dreams was about 4% more expensive in an analysis of 150 comparable rooms across a variety of nights over the next 12 months. There are a lot of factors that go into it, but it’s often based on supply. With adults-only results, childless travelers have more options to stay and can shop around. Families have fewer choices which can sometimes result in staying more.”

Travelers can compound those savings by targeting properties during their debut windows. “New resorts need to fill rooms and generate reviews, so they discount,” French notes. “We often see grand opening offers advertising deals like 25% off. With so many all-inclusives on the horizon (especially in the adults-only space!), you can often score deals there.”

The easiest way to catch these early-bird rates before they sell out is to sign up for email newsletters and social media feeds from major hotel chains, which announce grand openings first. Hotspots like Mexico’s Riviera Maya and the Dominican Republic are seeing the biggest influx of new properties.

How to Use Points (and Packages) to Dodge Extra Fees

Using your hotel points to book a stay can be a game-changer—especially for avoiding extra fees. “Booking on points can be smart, especially at certain companies,” French adds. “For example, resort and service fees are waived when you book a standard room reward entirely with Hilton Honors points, including at Hilton all-inclusive properties.”

World of Hyatt also waives resort fees on all award stays (including at top-tier inclusive brands like Secrets and Dreams), while Marriott and IHG still tack on those daily fees even when you pay with points.

Still, it’s crucial to read the fine print before you transfer your rewards. “It’s important to know that often points at all-inclusives fall into different redemption categories than points at standard hotels,” cautions French. “Some free night certificates won’t apply at all-inclusives, and sometimes there’s an additional fee if you bring more than two people.”

Finally, rethink how you purchase your flights—bundled together with the resort or separately. “This is an interesting one, and the answer is, it depends,” says French. “Booking through packages like Costco Travel can amount to enormous savings. Costco travel specifically is great because it uses its massive bulk-buying power and membership model to negotiate exclusive rates (plus sometimes they can throw in extra perks!). But for people who have their own points or miles, sometimes booking individually can be cheaper—especially if you find a really great flight redemption on miles to get you there.”

By looking past the sticker price, timing your stay around new openings, and aligning how you pay with built-in fee waivers, an effortless luxury escape in 2027 doesn’t have to carry a luxury premium.
