Josh Giddey’s Dimes, Giannis is Going to Giannis, A Really Tough B2B, and Other Bulls Bullets

The top spot in the Eastern Conference no longer belongs to the Chicago Bulls.

Picking up their second loss of the season last night in Milwaukee, the 6-2 squad has slipped behind the Detroit Pistons, who have only lost once since the Bulls’ opening night victory. They will have a chance to reclaim the top spot later today, but it won’t be easy! Less than 24 hours after facing Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bulls will have to see a Cavaliers team that just dropped 148 points on the Washington Wizards in regulation. Yikes!

Let’s start with some of the good from last night. Despite it being one of his more inefficient shooting nights of the season, Josh Giddey still looked like a playmaking All-Star. He kept the Bulls alive with a season-high 14 dimes and is now third in the NBA in total assists. We may all be well aware of Giddey’s elite passing chops, but that doesn’t make watching him go to work any less impressive. The Bulls rank Top 6 in effective field goal percentage because of Giddey’s ability to consistently set up his teammates with open looks. Chicago won the fastbreak points battle 21-16 largely because of Giddey’s open-floor creativity. He has a couple of excellent feeds in transition, which included a flawless full-court feed to Kevin Huerter for the easy layup. I was especially impressed with how Giddey set up Matas Buzelis on a couple of well-timed cuts to the rim. The jumbo guard put the ball in the perfect spot for the second-year forward to quickly extend for the finish. I actually think this has been a big benefit to having Coby White on the sideline. Not only has Buzelis had to step up offensively, but it’s only given Giddey and Buzelis more room to build their chemistry. At the end of the day, no duo is more important to this franchise right now than that one.

Bulls may have lost last night, but another playmaking masterpiece from Josh Giddey (14 AST).If you move off the ball, he will reward you. I especially love how he found Matas on those cuts. Put the ball in the perfect spot. pic.twitter.com/BhJxUAFr4V

    — Elias Schuster (@Schuster_Elias) November 8, 2025 With Josh Giddey coupling his 14 assists with 16 points, he now has a double-double in seven of the Bulls’ eight games this season. As the team noted on social media, this ties him for the league lead with Nikola Jokic and Karl-Anthony Towns. The players right behind him include Giannis Antetokounmpo and Domantas Sabonis, with six double-doubles. Think about that … all frontcourt players. How freakin’ impressive is that for Giddey? As great as all the assists were, this may have been my favorite Giddey moment of the night. I didn’t even know he could move this fast!

    — Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) November 8, 2025 Let’s talk a little more about Matas Buzelis. The forward was the other major bright spot last night, leading the team with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. From the moment the ball was tipped, he joined the Greek Freak in looking like the most energized and motivated player on the court. He really did an excellent job putting pressure on the rim and was rewarded with a 6-6 start from the field. I really respect Buzelis’ shot selection, particularly for such a young player. He’s very good at choosing when to attack. By the way, did you see his stepback three? There is a moment from Buzelis in every game where you can not help but see the All-Star potential. This was the one for me. He’s been decent as a catch-and-shoot player this year, but if he can add something like a stepback triple to his arsenal … my goodness!

    — Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) November 8, 2025 Ok … now time for the bad. Look, Giannis is Giannis. Every single team looks some level of helpless against the superstar. At the same time, as we noted in yesterday’s morning notes before the game, this was a particularly horrible matchup for the Bulls. They are missing their most physical rim protector (Zach Collins) and have allowed the third-most points in the paint per game. Antetokounmpo was going to feast, and that’s exactly what he did with 41 points on 16-32 shooting. He also did exactly what a player of his caliber is supposed to do and hammered the overwhelming advantage he had in the paint when the game was on the line. He shot 7-10 in the fourth quarter alone for 19 points. Milwaukee also came into the night as one of the NBA’s top three-point shooting teams. The Bulls needed to run them off the line or keep up behind their own arc. They failed to do either. Milwaukee was a +18 from three-point range and shot 41.0 percent overall. It’s going to be hard to win when the other team has a Giannis AND shoots that well from three. The Bulls are now 1-1 in NBA Cup play and have a -6 point differential thanks to Milwaukee running up the score in the final minutes. Fortunately, they have two very winnable matchups left on the calendar against the Heat and Hornets. Let’s see if they can advance to the knockout round for the first time in franchise history! Giannis Antetokounmpo playing the Chicago Bulls – © Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images The Bulls will have to do it all over again tonight against one of the NBA’s best teams. The Cavaliers welcomed back Darius Garland earlier this week and have immediately looked like their 2024-25 self. They dropped a ridiculous 148 points on the Wizards by draining 20 threes and scoring 32 points off turnovers. They also didn’t have a single starter play more than 28 minutes, meaning they will come into tonight’s game with fresher legs than normal for a back-to-back. Two things to keep in mind: Cleveland scores the third-most points off turnovers per game and the fifth-most fastbreak points per game. Those two things are obviously connected, as they are darn good at poking the ball away and quickly pushing it up the floor. All things considered, that makes the fresher legs feel that much more important. They are one of the handful of teams in the league that can truly keep up with the Bulls’ lightning-quick style of play. Matas content! The Chicago Bulls followed around Buzelis over the first few games of the season and shared a vlog on their YouTube page.

BNF PROMO: The new user pick tonight is Devin Booker! As long as he scores a single point against the Clippers, you will have one box checked. He’s averaging 30 a game … so I think you’re good! The Ben Johnson Burger at Soldier Field!? I’m in! Connor Bedard is looking more and more like the superstar we all expected. So much young talent in Chicago right now!
