City Manager Raymond Lee will present his resignation to the Greeley City Council in a special meeting Monday.
His last day in office will be Nov. 21, but his resignation will be official Dec. 2.
“This was a mutually beneficial agreement,” outgoing Mayor John Gates told BizWest late Friday. “This all sounds negative, but it’s a fresh start for both Raymond and the city.
“We thank him for the job he has done. He was clearly a visionary,” Gates said. “But I think it was time for everybody to make this move.”
As part of a separation agreement signed by Lee, he will receive, before tax deductions, compensation for accrued salary for the most recent pay period, accrued but unused paid time off and a separation payment of $106,158.23, which is equivalent to four months of his salary.
The agreement absolves the city and Lee of liability or legal claims. The proposed agreement includes non-disparagement clauses between Lee and the city.
At Monday’s meeting, the city council will vote on approval of the separation agreement and also will appoint an acting city manager while a national search for Lee’s replacement is conducted.
Gates would not discuss the reasons for Lee’s departure.
Lee was named city manager on Jan. 4, 2022. He has been a key voice in support of the redeveloped downtown civic campus as well as the Catalyst entertainment and Cascadia mixed-use projects on the west edge of the city.
According to the summary of Monday’s meeting, “Mr. Lee and representatives of the City Council have discussed Mr. Lee’s desire to resign his employment as City Manager and have discussed the terms and conditions of such resignation.”
Lee had not returned a call seeking comment by late Friday.
