The Bears head back to Soldier Field this week carrying real momentum after that track-meet win in Cincinnati, a game that reminded everyone how explosive this team can be when the offense tilts all the way into chaos.

It wasn’t perfect (far from it) but it was the latest sign that Chicago is learning how to win different kinds of games, a trait that separates playoff teams from pretenders. Now comes a matchup against a Giants squad trending in the opposite direction, and the Bears have a chance to solidify their footing before November turns the schedule into something far less forgiving.

New York arrives in Chicago looking like a team stuck between promise and panic. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart continues to flash big-arm talent and impressive poise, but the support around him keeps eroding. The Giants are battered at multiple positions, particularly along the offensive line and in the secondary, and their defense has struggled to hold up over four quarters. The losing streak is growing, the frustration is mounting, and nothing about their current form suggests they’re equipped to stabilize on the road, where they’re winless on the season.

One storyline to watch is whether running back Kyle Monangai’s emergence continues to reshape the backfield. His energy and decisiveness have given Chicago’s run game a spark, and the staff has clearly taken notice. A heavier workload feels inevitable if he keeps stacking performances, and this matchup sets up nicely for the Bears to lean on that physical style. Complementing that will be the need to get the passing game back into a steady rhythm, especially with defenses starting to key on Chicago’s vertical shots.

Defensively, the Bears are coming off a taxing stretch. This unit is still working through injuries, especially on the back end. That puts added pressure on the pass rush to win quickly and on the coaching staff to tighten the structure after a couple of messy outings. The addition of Joe Tryon-Shoyinka adds a new dimension off the edge, and how he slots into the rotation will offer a first glimpse of what Chicago hopes he can unlock down the stretch.

At 5-3, the Bears have earned the right to treat this week as a business opportunity: win the game they should win, keep building momentum, and push into the tougher part of the schedule with confidence. The Giants are wounded and searching for answers. The Bears are climbing and beginning to look like a team capable of sustaining real success. Sunday is about proving you know who you are — and proving you can take care of business when the advantage is yours.

    Three Bears

Every week, our Chicago Bears writers will give you their Bears player to watch in the matchup ahead. Three Bears is a staple of these previews, and with Bears coverage expanding this season, I thought it would be cool to involve all of the Bears thinkers in the exercise.

Patrick Flowers: Kyle Monangai — There’s no one I’m more excited to watch on Sunday than rookie running back Kyle Monangai. D’Andre Swift is trending toward a return from his groin injury. Still, Monangai’s monster performance last week in Cincinnati has surely earned him more of a 1A workload compared to what the rookie seventh-rounder had seen before last week. I’m interested to see how Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson handles that balance against a very vulnerable Giants run defense.

Luis Medina: Gervon Dexter Sr. — The Bears’ defensive line is in the midst of a shakeup. Someone needs to step up with the recent losses of Dayo Odeyingbo, Shemar Turner, and Dominique Robinson. Newcomer Joe Tryon-Shoyinka could help, but the Bears REALLY need impact from someone like Gervon Dexter. In his last four games, Dexter has 2.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 tackles-for-loss, and 2 quarterback hits. Chicago’s defense needs more from the third-year defender moving forward. Playing a Giants team teetering on the brink of self-destruction feels like a good place to get something started.

Matt Rooney: Theo Benedet — I really would like to not notice him at all on Sunday. That would mean he did his job well and didn’t get beaten by the Giants’ solid group of pass rushers. Benedet was good in the run game against Cincy, but struggled in pass protection in one-on-one situations, giving up too much ground too often. I’d love to see him step up and have a solid game against a really dangerous group of edge defenders.
