2025 HUNGARIAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wednesday, November 5th – Saturday, November 8th Debrecen, Hungary SCM (25m) Day 1 Recap Live Results

Day two of the 2025 Hungarian Short Course Championships unfolded tonight from Debrecen, with additional age records being broken over the course of the finals session.

In the women’s 200m butterfly, 15-year-old Boroka Zsofia Kertesz got it done for gold, clocking a stellar performance of 2:08.17.

The teen’s outing overtook the previous Hungarian Age Record for 15-year-olds of 2:08.46, a time Bettina Barany put on the books in 2009.

Splitting 29.04/32.76/33.02/33.35, Kertesz held off a charging Panna Ugrai, who settled for silver half a second back in 2:08.67. Laura Vanda Ilyes rounded out the podium in 2:10.00.

For perspective, as swift as Kertesz’s time was, it’s still a mile off the current World Junior Record of 2:02.96 Japan’s Suzuka Hasegawa registered in 2017.

The men’s 50m freestyle also saw an age record go down, with Zoltan Bagi posting a time of 21.85 to capture 5th place overall. His time erased the 22.10 Dominik Kozma established in 2009.

Further up the line in the splash n’ dash, Szebasztian Szabo reaped gold in 21.22, followed closely by Nandor Nemeth, who was next to the wall in 21.43.

Adam Jaszo, a gold medalist from night one, bagged the bronze in 21.53, although he led the heats with an impressive morning result of 21.39.

Zoltan Bagi finished 5th in the event with a time of 21.85, notching a new Hungarian Age Record or 18-year-olds.

Of note, Jaszo earlier topped the men’s 100m backstroke podium this evening, turning in a time of 50.74 to beat his competitors by over a second.

Benedeck Kovacs snagged the silver in 51.82 while Moritz Dittrich of Austria earned bronze in 51.95.

According to the World Aquatics database, Jaszo’s performance tonight checked in as a lifetime best, obliterating his previous PB of 51.46 from the 2024 edition of this competition.

Szebasztian Szabo was too quick to catch in the men’s 50mfree, stopping the clock at 21.22 to top the podium

The next closest competitor was Nemeth, who touched in 21.43, immediately after his fourth-place garnering outing in the men’s 100m backstroke.

Jaszo landed on the podium once again, hitting 21.53 after a morning outing of 21.39.

Of note, Zoltan Bagi, the 5th place finisher, nabbed a new Hungarian Age Record of 21.85. He erased Dominik Kozma‘s previous outing of 22.10 from 2009.

    Additional Notes

Richard Marton topped the men’s 200m fly podium in a head-turning result of 1:52.18. He split 24.64/28.28/29.23/30.03 to beat the field by well over two seconds. Next to the wall was David Antal in 1:54.05 followed by Anton Kocsu in 1:54.46. As we reported earlier, Petra Senanszky crushed a new Hungarian national record of 24.11 in the women’s 50m freestyle. The women’s 100m back saw Lora Fanni Komoroczy follow up her 50m free silver with a gold. The 19-year-old registered 58.58 to top the podium, leaving Fanni Viktoria Kokas and Cecilia Gergely in the dust. The former touched in 59.38 for silver while the latter hit 1:00.70 for bronze.
