“RIP young man. I wish you could have [sought] some counsel,” a third person wrote. “God bless your family and loved ones through this difficult time.”
Support also flooded in on other social media platforms, including X.
“Absolutely hurts… 24 years old with his whole life ahead of him. Rest easy, Marshawn,” one fan wrote.
Another X user said, “I'm heartbroken to hear this news, Marshawn Kneeland was a rising star with so much promise ahead of him. At just 24, he brought incredible energy and talent to the Cowboys. His passion on the field and off it touched so many fans. My thoughts are with his girlfriend, family, teammates, and the entire Dallas community during this unimaginable time.”

Kneeland was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to ABC News and The Guardian, after he reportedly evaded police on Wednesday, November 5. Officers attempted to pull Kneeland over after an alleged traffic violation on the Dallas North Tollway that night, and Texas DPS said he refused to stop, prompting a chase until police lost sight of his vehicle.
The vehicle Kneeland was driving was later found abandoned after it had crashed on the Dallas Parkway, and authorities discovered his body “in the immediate area,” per ABC News.
The Cowboys announced the news earlier today.
“It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning,” the organization said in a statement shared by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network via X. “Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”
A second-round pick out of Western Michigan in 2024, Kneeland quickly became one of Dallas’ most promising young defenders. His death came just two days after he scored his first career NFL touchdown, recovering a blocked punt in the end zone during the Cowboys’ Monday night loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The play marked a milestone moment for the 24-year-old rookie, who was drafted by Dallas in 2024. Now, fans and teammates are left remembering that brief highlight in what was supposed to be the start of a long career.
