Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Zachary McNabb of Chesapeake, Virginia, has committed to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy, beginning in the 2027–2028 school year. He trains year-round with Old Dominion Aquatic Club and attends Hickory High School.
McNabb confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I am extremely honored and excited to announce my commitment to further continue my academic and swimming careers at the United States Naval Academy. I would like to thank my ODAC coaches, teammates, friends, and family for helping me become athlete and person I am today. Special thanks to Coach Roberts, Coach Liscinsky, and Coach Jake for this incredible opportunity. GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!

McNabb is a distance freestyle specialist who enjoyed significant time drops during the 2024-25 season, entering the year with personal bests of 1:44.26 (200 free), 4:25.26 (500 free), and 15:51.31 (1650 free). By season’s end, his times had improved to 1:43.08, 4:33.42, 50.97, and 15:31.17.
His first target meet of the 2024-25 season was the East Coast WinterFest, held in mid-December, where he popped his initial batch of best times. He won the 1650 free in a time of 15:43.23, obliterating his previous best by over seven seconds, before going on to touch second in the 1000 free (9:21.48), fourth in the 500 free (4:36.52), and sixth in the 200 free (1:43.47). His time in the 1000 represented his first time cracking 9:30, while his effort in the 200 marked his inaugural dip under 1:44, and his swim in the 500 represented his second-fastest performance ever at that point.
At the Virginia Senior State Championships in March, McNabb clocked his current best times in his top events. He placed second in the 1650, third in the 500, and touched the wall 25th in the 200 free, while also contributing to Old Dominion’s eighth-place 800 free relay, where he swam an anchor leg split of 1:41.99—more than a second under his flat-start best time.
At the same meet in 2024, he placed sixth in the 500 and eighth in both the 1000 and 1650, so he moved up in both the 500 and 1650 this time around, though he didn’t swim the 1000 at this year’s meet and hadn’t competed in the 200 in 2024.
Over the summer, McNabb qualified for and competed at the Futures Championship, held in a long course pool. He swam personal bests in all of his events, dropping 19 seconds to place ninth in the 1500 free (16:08.95), 15 seconds to finish 18th in the 800 free (8:29.49), and nearly five seconds to take 24th in the 400 free (4:06.89).

The team finished second to Army West Point at the 2025 Patriot League Championships, failing to earn the conference crown for the first time since 2005.
With two years left before he heads to Annapolis, McNabb’s times would already be useful to the Midshipmen at the conference meet. This past season, his lifetime best in the mile would have placed him 10th, just over four seconds shy of cracking the top eight. His 500 free best would have earned a spot in the ‘C’ final, ranking 23rd with 4:34.65 as the cutoff for that event. In the 200 free, it took a 1:41.15 to reach the top 24 and score, which puts McNabb about two seconds shy.
On the team itself, McNabb’s best times would have ranked him sixth in the 1650 free, 15th the 500 free and 21st in the 200 free during the 2024–25 season. Senior Everet Andrew topped the chart in the 200 free (1:35.26), while sophomore Ben Mauldin clocked the leading 500 free time at 4:22.61. Freshman Dean Jones recorded the fastest mile at 15:24.90, and with McNabb overlapping a year with him on the roster, the two should make strong training partners in the distance events.
McNabb joins Camp Hartman, Ryan Baldwin, Alex Jungbluth, and Parker Efird in Navy’s class of 2030.
