PENFIELD, N.Y. — St. Joseph School in Penfield held its annual “Field of Honor” ceremony Wednesday morning to honor veterans ahead of Veterans Day.
Veterans expressed that it was rewarding to see young children begin to understand the significance of Veterans Day.
“As a veteran, I love always hearing the national anthem and to hear the kids sing it so beautifully was amazing,” James Reyes said. “To see the kids just have such excitement around it, because in the outside world I’m just another person, so to have a day where kids get to recognize who’s out there serving the country is nice.”
More than 175 miniature flags, purchased by community members, were displayed outside the school to honor veterans. The proceeds from the flag purchases will go to the Veterans Outreach Center.
