GMKD Talks Process, More ‘A-Game’ Needed, Moore, Lardis, Knight, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times shared an interview with Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson on Tuesday that covers a lot of ground. He shares his excitement from the start of the year we’ve seen from Connor Bedard, comments on the youth on the back end and the evolution of play from the team.

I appreciate how Pope frames Davidson’s optimism that “young players’ improvement over time might counterbalance” regression from the Blackhawks’ good start to the season that stats tell us is likely coming. Here’s what Davidson had to say about the young Blackhawks’ roster and the work head coach Jeff Blashill is doing through the predictable ups and downs that come with a young team:

“We have really talented players,” Davidson said. “In a lot of cases, they’re very young and green to the NHL and new to this whole thing, but they’re very talented. It’s something I believe they can handle. I do see the benefit of playing a certain system and learning within that, rather than playing one way that maybe has training wheels on it.

“You just [say], ‘You know what? You guys are NHL players, and you’re going to play like the NHL-level team we want to be.’ I like that process.”

    — Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) November 4, 2025 With the process and development in mind, Blashill’s comments about his roster not necessarily having its “A-game” collectively in Seattle is noteworthy. Here’s what the Blackhawks’ head coach said about Frank Nazar‘s game specifically: Good read here from Kalen Lumpkins at the Chicago Tribune on Oliver Moore‘s season debut on Monday night.

Despite the Hawks’ 3-1 loss in Seattle last night, Oliver Moore made his presence felt after being recalled from Rockford. Whether it’s permanent or just until Jason Dickinson heals is unclear, but Moore made it very clear. “I’m ready to go.” t.co/Yx4AmKAznT

    — Kalen Lumpkins (@kalenalumpkins) November 4, 2025 Greg Wyshynski at ESPN “polled a wide selection of Professional Hockey Writers Association voters anonymously to get a sense of where the wind is blowing for the current leaders” for the NHL Awards so far this year. The Blackhawks (predictably) didn’t get many mentions, but Spencer Knight did receive one vote for the Vezina. Nick Lardis was named the OHL’s Rookie of the Month for October. He’s one of the guys the Blackhawks selected at the 2023 NHL Draft who is looking more and more like he could be a dude in the future. If the early returns from all over the world this season are any indication, that draft class could have a big impact on the Blackhawks’ future. The Blackhawks are one of the last NHL teams to celebrate their Hockey Fights Cancer night, but it’s still such an important initiative across the hockey landscape. The Rockford IceHogs will host their night next weekend. Keep praying for Troy Murray, folks.
