Greeley residents of Ward 2 reelect Deb DeBoutez to city council

Councilwoman Deb DeBoutez will retain her seat on the Greeley City Council with early election results putting her ahead with 62% of the vote.

DeBoutez won in a landslide against her opponent, Brandon Wark, a local Greeley resident. DeBoutez received 1,752 votes out of a total of 2,830 votes cast in the latest ballot drop.

“I am just very grateful to the voters and the supporters for allowing me to serve for another four years,” DeBoutez said. “There’s a lot of work to be done, and I’d like to finish some projects we started. I am honored, thrilled and super excited to work with the new council.”

DeBoutez’s top priority during her final term as a city council member will be to revitalize older neighborhoods in Greeley, specifically within the downtown area. She will also continue to prioritize safe, clean neighborhoods with easy access to parks, trails and open spaces.

“It has been an honor to represent residents of southeast Greeley. It’s an area filled with amazing neighbors, beloved homes, historic institutions, large employers and numerous opportunities to thrive,” DeBoutez said before the election. “I want to continue my advocacy for residents of this ward by working with my colleagues on the city council.”

DeBoutez and her opponent were united in their opposition against the Catalyst project, a development in west Greeley that will construct a new hotel, water park, and hockey arena for the Colorado Eagles hockey team. The project has sparked frequent opposition from local residents, who have submitted numerous petitions against it.

Wark, DeBoutez’s opponent, was gracious about the loss, congratulating her for her victory and reflecting on the enjoyment he experienced in running for office.

“Running for office was a great experience. Meeting so many of my neighbors and exploring our neighborhoods was worth running. I’m thankful for the support I did receive, and I won’t stop standing up for Greeley families,” Wark said in an emailed statement. “Congratulations to my opponent for her victory. I wish her well.”

DeBoutez will be sworn into office for her final term as a council member on Nov. 18.
