(KRON) -- Redwood City firefighters responding to a large fire at a liquor store Monday morning found two people deceased inside, according to police.

Once the fire was knocked down and crews could enter the business, investigators confirmed the deceased individuals.

“Their identities have not been confirmed, and it is unknown at this time whether they were living inside the store or why they were there when the fire began,” RCPD said. Neither of the individuals was the store owner, who was contacted and is cooperating with the investigation underway by the police and fire departments and the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100.
